G12-75 vs. V30

Which speaker between the G12-75 and V30 would have more bite and fat chunk with clarity in a 4x12 cab?

I need a cab that can hold its own by itself and with another guitarist. A Sabbath meets modern sludge aka. COC, Down etc.

My current cab is G12-85 loaded. It has awesome headroom and clarity pushed, but sounds too thin when playing with another guitarist. My amp is EQ'ed at 6 bass, 5-6 mids, and 6-7 highs. And our songs are played 30% clean and 70% pushed or distorted.

The V30/G12H combo is very popular. I don't really care for the V30, but many guitarists seem to like it for versatility, with good punch and present mids.

Personally I'd go with G12H speakers for "fat chunk" :D It has a vintage tone but it has more bass response than some other vintage style speakers.

The G12-T75 has good bass response, but I like more definition in the midrange spectrum.

The V30 will have more presense in that type of mix with another guitarist, plus it's louder. The 75 has a tendacy to dissapear (except perhaps the trebles) in a dense mix.

Look, 75s are cool, almost hi fi in their clarity, esp clean. Yet, can get a great growl that records smooth a la Yngwie Malmsteen. That being said, if you want a good low end and nasty snarl and growl, rude mids - well, I feel V30s are the sound of ROCK! Esp when cranked.

Cabinet type matters A LOT! If you want crushing lows, look into some of the newer makers such as Mesa, VHT, Diezel, etc - their oversized cabs add a lot of dynamic to the speakers.

I wanted the same thing and emailed celestion and they recomended these. I like them alot. I've had them for about 9 months.

The G12K-100 is basically a bigger magnet version of the G12T-75 found in
the 1960 cabs so has a very similar overall character. The larger magnet
makes it louder but also tightens up the bottom end giving an impression of
more midrange.

Hi, I have a Marshall 1960a that I bought new in 1996. I like the g12ts
that are in the cab and I just purchased a 2x12 Cab from Earcandy Cabs. It
came with Eminence GB12s and I don't really care for them too much. They
seem to be lacking in the bass and very "middy". I guess what I'm looking
for is something comparable to the G12t with the same bass but a bit
tighter and a little more mids. I've been reading about the G12H. I just
figured I would go to "the horses mouth". Thanks for any suggestions. I'm
running a Marshall pre(9001) into a Boogie 20/20.

K guys, I own G12T75's and they sound harsh and very trebly-ice picky to my ears, but many guys claim that V30 is THE speaker which shouts with tons of treble.. Which one has stronger high frequency?, which one is less harsh?

I Like V30s but I also like the Heritage 30s and Greenbacks...It's cool to mix speakers as mentioned also..Like V30/Greenback etc...

I had 75's in one of my cabs and switched to V30's. To me, the 75's were way, way more harsh than the Vintage 30s. Some people hear it differently though. This to me is just brass akwards, based on what I experianced. The 75's were just getting too ice picky at gigs. After the switch to V30's, I got more compliments on my tone, and the tone was just overall warmer and creamier to my ears. With the 75's the comments on the tone from others were terms like " bright and clean" and "Hi Fi-ish".

I think it's down to how your brain precieves mids. Not everyone hears or precieves these the same. For some people, the extended mids of the V30 sounds thicker and more complex. To others it just sounds brighter. To the latter group the almost complete lack of mids of the 75's is precieved as a darker smoother sound, but to the former group it simply sounds thin.

I agree....Both my 2x12 Vox cab and my Marshall 4x12 have the V30s and I Love em...Could just be my styles,the music we play,and my overall setup,but they sit nice in our band's overall mix...Some people say the V30s are spikey in the mids and harsh...I find the speakers are more efficient,louder,but warmer in my situation...The mids are out a bit but maybe thats the reason I Like the overall eq and the way the V30s work?

I know Stratdeluxer, I'm just a stubborn guy who always must ensure himself thousand times before buying anything, even though I know that the speaker rocks, and even though I've already bought it (paired with G12H30, I'm still waiting for them)..

Exacly that's the problem, I got a job on last vacation, worked hard instead of having fun, just to buy myself a 1960a with G12T75's, which I HATE now. I've been regreting that decision for a whole year, don't want to make such a mistake again :D Hopefully I'll like the combo (V30-G12H30, btw does the combo have a name??, if not we should name it :D)..

Thats what I was getting at. More presence. My current cab sounds fine by itself, but with another guitar it tends to dissappear.

I was looking at a Randall XL cab made of 11 ply birch with "high energy" V-30's. Whatcha think?
