Whats the tonal difference between a Marshall cab loaded with G12-75's and a Boogie or Randall cab loaded with V 30's.

Re: G12t-75 vs. High Energy V 30's

I've had both in the same amp, and actually prefer the G12T-75's. The V30's are much smoother and definately middy.....almost too smooth and middy for my taste. I put my old 75's back in, and got that tight crunch back I was looking for.

I actually think that at some point in the future, I'll try a combo of both in an X pattern....see how I like that.

that's where it's at man!! my splawn cab has the x pattern of eminence versions of the v30 and the g12t-75 and it kicks ass. they fill in the "gaps" each speaker has.

I think GJ once said a cab with those two mixed + a JCM2000 can get you quite decent sounds.

Re: G12t-75 vs. High Energy V 30's

How much of an improvment will G12t-75 speakers sound over my current G12k-85's. I'm lookin for more fat meat and thickness, but not at the cost of clarity. I see used 1960 cabs all the time for $400 that fit my meager budget.

Re: G12t-75 vs. High Energy V 30's

Sounds perfect to me. I really dig the G12T75's for live work (for recording, I prefer V30's). Great, tight, thick tone!

Re: G12t-75 vs. High Energy V 30's

I had 2 g12k100 speakers mixed with 2 v30s and then mixed with 2 governors. I actually like the governor/g12k100 mix as the 100 had a low frequency while the governor tamed the harshness of the Celestions and gave it good breakup. The v30 does have more bass than the governor and a more open sound with slightly less breakup but has that annoying high peircing thing tht v30s are known for. I did just get a Hellatone 60 and it was much better in the highs than the v30. It is basically the same speaker but with no annoying highs, just right. The g12t75 has more breakup than the K series and more mids but a more peircing high. I do like the g12t75 speakers and have a couple of 8 ohms in my cabs. I have 4 fairly new g12t75 speakers for sale on the trading post.

I'd say the G12-75 are more tight and scooped, while the V30s give you a more middy & dirtier sound. I prefer the V30s for rock actually... and tomorrow I should get a cab loaded with 2 of 'em... yay

And another thing... you guys do know you can get 1960s stock loaded with 30s right?

I agree. The 75's have hardly any midrange by comparison. Scooped they really are. I preffer the V30 (or H30, or GB, or alincos ..or...) for any type of guitar rock that I might play to the 75's. The 75's might be a better for clean top40 or C&W music though. I have two old 75's that I use in a PA monitor, and they are well suited for that.

OK, which speaker would sound best for Blues/metal. I'm talking Sabbath, Danzig, COC, Down, Zepplin and ZZ top.

Re: G12t-75 vs. High Energy V 30's

V 30s rock imo. i use them in my 4x12(engl vintage pro cab) with my engl powerball and imo those two are a great match. The powerball itself is pretty bright and tight ,but can sound pretty harsh and unpleasing with the wonrg cabs. V30s even that out a bit and give it a really crushing and powerfull sound.
