Darkness on the edge of Tone
My friends in the band King Calo Destroyer Of Ships helped me with some gang vocals last night and thought I would share the results with y'all.
This was recorded in their very small rehearsal room in Queens last night. I knew that the room acoustics and bleed from other bands rehearsing would seriously inhibit the recording process, so I chose the most directional and high frequency insensitive mic I own -- the SM57.
Worked PERFECT in this application.
There were four of us and a single SM57. I had the output from my interface (Scarlett 2i2) going into a Tech 21 guitar amp that we used as our monitor to follow the song with. I had the amp directly behind the mic so that any spill would be minimized.
I did 4 passes for each section; for 2 we were relatively close (within 2ft) to the mic and for 2 we were further back (4-5ft).
