Garageband Question

So I've finally got my first recording rig down - got two SM-57's, a Mac, and a Mbox Mini (the only thing I own is one of the mics, hah). Since I only have XLR to 1/4" cables, both mics are running into the line ins of the Mbox. I want to record two tracks simultaneously, with each mic feeding one of the tracks. However, Garageband will only let me select one track at a time. Is there anything I can do about this?

Also, is it even possible to separate the mics onto different tracks? I tried to by feeding each track a different input source (options are Mono 1 and Mono 2) but I'm not sure if it worked.

Sorry if these are basic questions, I'm just a n00ber at this stuff.

It sounds like something to do with the Mbox setup, but I don't know it, or the Mac, but GarageBand ought to be able to handle more than one track at a time.

How many channels does the audio/MIDI interface box offer?

If the MBox Mini is a 2x2 device, it can probably only handle one mono source or one stereo source at a time. Two mono inputs to two discreet input busses simply and, then, to two discreet mono audio tracks, may not be offered. This is a failing of the MBox Mini rather than either the computer or the recording software.

Two index entries conspicuous by their absence are the words Buss and Routing.

On any mixing system, I like to see a schematic diagram of the signal flow. The MBox offers no such illustration. Judging by its selection of sockets, one track at a time is all that the design is can cope with. It is intended for the lone home recordist.
