Re: GAS for an SG with P90's
Being a huge fan of Pete Townshend and The Who it is hard to not want an SG Special or Classic with P90's... I prefer the new Classic myself as the 2 piece bridge i like more.... I have a buddy who owns a 68 SG Special just like the ones Pete used and it's a great guitar! I know people who have bought the PT SG also.... In fact if you have $20,000 USA you could buy an SG from Pete himself for Charity.... He is selling them on his site and he has one left.... They are not production models they are the test products Gibson sent to Pete for him to except for the PT Signature....
The real seceret to getting Petes settings when he used the SG's on Live At Leeds is to roll the neck volume back to about 2 and leave the bridge on full... Thru a slightly distorted amp you can switch to almost clean sounds at the neck and more distorted sounds thru the bridge at a flip of the switch... Then add a fuzz box for insane solos.....
Of course you have to grab the guitar and break the neck in 2 when done... There was a video called Maximum R&B out about 10 years ago that had some live clips of the Who's set at Tanglewood 1970.... At the end of Tanglewood Pete was standing on his guitar strap and had his sg behind his back.... he just bend over and snaped the neck off... This SG breaking can be seen in the end credits to the movie The Kids Are Alright... But the Maximum R&B viseo shows 3 tunes from that show... Great Rare Who film!
Coming out next year (fall 2006) there is a new Documentry film of the Who being worked on... They are releasing a London 1969 show as a bonus to the film.... Also for the film they have unearthed some film from Leeds 1970... And Isle Of Wight 1969 is now floating around collectors...
