So a local shop is selling off some alpine white gibson LP studios for 10.000 SEK (like $1200) which is a really great price NEW for these, used they go for about $1000.

I'm just about to sell my moped for this exact amount so I think I'm going to do it! Like I said earlier I'd rather have a nice guitar than a crappy moped :D

So who else is gasing for these or have one? :)

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

I bought a les paul studio vintage mahogany yesterday. Not a lot of difference between mine and the pic you displayed.

The only advice I can give you is to go for it. You won't regret it.

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

There is'nt much difference between mine and what you are looking at. The only real one is the finish. Mine is a studio vintage mahogany. And btw, I think that alpine white finish with the gold hardware is one of the best looking studios out there.

Did you know that on the alpine whites, the fretboard is ebony and not rosewood! I found that out the other day, it's a good little piece of info.

But yeah, I say go for it dude, and post plenty of pics after.

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

Sweet guitar! :) Looks amazing, simple yet beautiful. I love the alpine whites, it looks very 'classy' but still rock n roll :D And yeah I knew that they come with ebony boards but I prefer it to rosewood anyway.

Eric that sounds great :) Do you have any photos of yours?

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

From his signature, I think he has the same thing as I do. It's important to note that they aren't a "faded" model though. They are a studio, but with the " vintage mahogany" finish, not to be confused with the fade finishes.

Once again before I finish this post I must say that these guitars are killer for the price. They really do have that les paul sound, at a darn good price. Perfect, exept for the small strap buttons!:laugh2:

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

Semi off-topic, but do you know how thick the bodies of these studios are compared to SGs?

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

Concerning the thickness of the body, it's pretty much the same as all other lp/sg comparisons. The les paul is much, much thicker than the sg.

I don't know if they all do come with the rounded 50's neck, but all the ones I have tried had it.

No I keep forgeting to take some. It is dark brown and I changed the pup rings out for white ones, left the black pickguard, added the TP-6 tail piece, and the previous owner had changed the switch tip to chrome, and the knobs where changed out from dome tops. And I added schaller strap locks.

Actually mine does have the "faded" finish. You can't seen bare wood like on some of the Sg's I've seen, but the top coat is not really shiny and there are some spots where they could have sanded a little better. Like around the neck joint. It is a dark brown, not even a hint of red. From what I have read it was a special run done for Guitar Center/Musicians Friend. I purchased it from SoCalSteve. He would know more about it.

do ALL studios come with a rounded 50's neck?

According to Gibson's website they have "the '59 les paul rounded" profile. The difference between this and the rounded 50's neck I am not sure on.

This guitar I keep at my girlfriends house I will be back over there tomorrow. And I'm giving her cousin a guitar lesson so I have no excuse not to get a picture of it! LOl

Eric I'm really looking forward to seeing your pics, sounds like your studio looks pretty interesting ;)

I was hoping they would come with the "60's slim taper neck", like the standards.

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

I do believe the rounded 59's is thiner than the 50's from the standard, because I was always a bit surprised when I played Standards in shops, the feel wasn't the same... The 50's is slightly on the too thick side for me whereas I like the 59's rounded. Not as much as the slim taper though :D.

Nowadays I only try LP standard with 60's neck, and I love them most of the time.

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

yeah...i wonder why gibson doesn't make studios with the 60's neck though.

nwy...how does a studio's neck compare to the new melody makers?

Re: Gasing for a GLP studio

Oh man, when you wrote about it I couldn't picture it but, OH MAN, the white pickup rings look freakin' awesome!!!
