Hmmm can someone compare the neck shape on a hamer to another guitar?

The one I have has a slim tapered neck like a '61 Les Paul/SG. Not flat, but a very soft/shallow "C" shape. Very comfortable. Others I've tried are similar.

Re: GASing for a Hamer!

The neck shape really depends. Currently all new USA Hamers are getting the "Vintage" carve which is a nice fat, round shape. It's not as thick as a 50's Les Paul baseball bat, but it's pretty substantial. The Talladega has an awesome V-shape, possibly the best neck I've ever played.

All of the mid-90's Hamers I've owned had a nice medium C shape. There is a trend for the early 90's Studios to have ultra thin necks. In the past with Hamer, just about anything goes. They've used a variety of neck shapes and would carve custom profiles for customers as well.

That being said, I've never played a Hamer with a neck that I didn't find comfortable. Hamer is one of the very few brands of guitar that I can buy sight unseen and know that it's going to be very comfortable for me to play.

I played one just like that recently and was all giddy to try it until, well, I tried it. I was utterly disappointed for a $2300 price tag. It was well made, but did not speak to me at all.

I'd love to have a Talladega with the Phat Cats though!!

Here's one that's on the way for me. :D

Re: GASing for a Hamer!

I've been away for a few days...here's one that'll be on it's way to me shortly. It actually got done 2 months EARLY which surprised the hell out of me and the dealer. I can't wait to get this thing in my hands-I used to have a 97 that was stolen, and I've been wanting another ever since.

A man with elegantly simple tastes, our Brandon. 6100 frets were the only deviation from stock......

....so I guess he'll be happy to see a rosewood headstock overlay on there......

(yes it was dusty, I can't keep it down with the humidifiers running full steam all day)

Brandon, thanks for helping to keep our country safe, sir.

Re: GASing for a Hamer!

This came w/a JBb and 59n. I replaced the JBb w/a Custom 5. It is absolute heaven now! This is a 1992 model.

Re: GASing for a Hamer!

Unfortunately, the Hiwatt was sold as part of my move to Australia. That was my main amp for close to 15 yrs. Oh well...

The Hamer will probably make the next trip across the Pacific. No point in giving everything up.

I'm watching those people through the curtains!
