Gauss...

I was trolling around, looking for Alnico magnets. One supplier mentioned his Alnico 5 magnet (for humbuckers) was pre-charged at 25 gauss.

Does anyone know if that's typical, or typical for what pickups?

Anyone know how that compares to typical Alnico 2 values?

Are there any references out there for this?

And then of course there's the next logical question... how do you set or change the guass of a given magnet accurately?

That sounds very much like a RB Annis meter reading and not a true gauss reading. I'm not overly familiar with that meter, but I seem to recall others saying 20 range is normal. But as a point of reference, fully charged A5 gauss is in the 12,000 range while A2 is about 7,500.

I believe Seymour uses an Annis meter.

You can change the gauss with a neodymium brick magnet. You'd need a gauss or Annis meter to get any real accuracy.
