I have 2 GB12's in my 4x12 slant avatar cab. I use the DSL 50 through this, and it has eminence V12's on the bottom. When i stand in front of both of these speakers I like the GB12's better. They seem more crunchy and clear, whereas the V12 is very bassy, which is why I went with them on the bottom. I personally think they sound great, not sure with a 5150 combo, but they sound great with my Marshall. Hope that helps.

You should also check out the new speakers from Eminence.. lots of choice! Visit their website....
I used 2 GB12's a while ago... found them a bit piercing, but liked the mid and bass better than a Greenback. They have a better EQ than the Greenback and G12M IMO. But I noticed that they are more sensible to cab design than other speakers... they were a bit treble-piercing in a Marshall 4x12 and 1x12 open-back config.. but sounded damn fine in semi-openback 2x12... the one I ordered from www.trutonecustom.com

I have used them for over a year now. By far the best deal in speakers. Many folks I really trust maintain they sound better than the current Celestion RI. You can hear mine in action if you click on my soundclick link. Everything is run through these speakers. My Plexi, Traynor and Carlsbro love them to death.

Sweet deal..
A bit piercing huh? Well I'm running a Strat.. Not sure.. But these Sheffields are REALLY bright. I just want to get more of a Marshall tone out of my 5150. I'm changing the tubes too, but wanted to go with speakers first.. Any other Eminence that will get me more Marshally?

I used the V12s in my 5150 they were very nice. I prefer a more vintage voice these days which is why I like the GBs a bit more. Both are great speakers.

You can also try matching V12/GB12... but definitely the GB12 will help to bring your amp into the marshall/british territory.

Find the peavey 5150 2x12...and their recommended replacement.. you could also email Eminence and ask 'em, they design the 5150 speakers (I think) and they'll recommend you the speaker you're looking for.

I can personally vouch for the sound of Kevlar's V12's.....I own them now!! I really like the sound they produce in my JCM 800 combo - huge difference over the GT75's that were stock. I had one V12 paired with a V30, and actually prefer the 2 v12's together. I would like to try the V12 with the G12H, but haven't had the chance yet.
