GC Score!!!! Silvertone 1471 for $22!!!

JumpMarine

18 watts of Mayhemologist
I was in at a GC in Beaverton, Or today and stumbled across a little amp hidden in the corner of the sound room. Pulled it out and plugged in and was floored by the tones coming out of this little monster. I went and asked about it and they fumbled a bit and then said $22......I said SOLD!

It's an old Silvertone 1471

Unknown year,1 6v6GT, 1 12ax7 vol, tone 6x4 rectifier, 8" speaker. Cardboard box with cool basket weave grill 6 watts of pure tone.

Sometimes you can score at GC

Sometimes you can score at GC

Though we like to gripe about it when GC overprices used gear, they also will underprice it. I once scored a Soldano half stack for $700.

I'll post some pictures when I get home on Sunday and try to figure out a way to record it.

Put it through a bigger speaker. I put mine through a 2x12. It gets some scary good tones. :burnout:

Do you mean like "Sears Silvertone?" I'm jealous.

That's the one and only.... Sears! Cheap cab materials, but decent chassie, original speaker and lots of personality and tone. My buddy Keith and I had been playing on several amps in the sound room when I found this tucked into the corner behind another amp. This little thing had more mojo than any of them. Now to check everthing over and do some slight upgrading...like a 3 prong plug for safety. And tubes.....I'm thinking a GT Mullard 12ax7, but don't know about what to get for a 6v6. The original ax7 had a cracked pin and it broke off last night when I pulled it(original Silvertone). I think that is why I got it so cheap, it was returned once and all they had to do was put in a new fuse. But it could have been an intermittant connection on the broken pin of the ax7. Another question, does the rectifier tube wear out like a power tube or is it like a preamp that last virtually forever? Is it safe to put a 6l6 in place of a 6v6? I'm treading new territory here and need some good advice.

Unforutunatly none other than one of those little Epiphone class a amps for about $110 new. Cool little amps, a bit noisy when cranked but good tone none the less.

Yeah, once in awhile there are gems there. I scored a USA made B.C. Rich ST3 for $75.00 plus tax. It had wires hanging out of it, so they blew it out. :beerchug: It KILLS.

I would LOVE to find an amp like that. A friend found a small amp like that (a "Melody" maybe?) that sounds AWESOME. Someone gave it to him.

You SCORED!!! There's a local shop which sells a lot of use stuff, they have a couple of little silvertone single 6V6 amps and they want $200.00 for each of them!!!!!

NOS RCA 6V6's can still be had for a reasonable price and you only need one!
