GC Score!!!! Silvertone 1471 for $22!!!

Re: GC Score!!!! Silvertone 1471 for $22!!!

I was lucky ,I've had a 1482 since I was little that was my dads and now its my practice amp. Some original tubes still in it. It snaps and pops for about ten minutes when I turn it on :)

Looks like I will have to replace the speaker, which is original. There is a small tear in the cone along one edge. It rats out a little bit(only when really pushed hard)and will most likely get worse. What would be a good quality 8"? Or would it be advisable to recone it to keep matching stamps on the baffle/speaker mag. Does anyone have some info or links to where I can figure out when this amp was built?

Been playing for the last hour and this little amp is pretty sweet! Creamy breakup and very chimey. More mids and lows than I expected with an 8" speaker. And super quiet, no hums or rattles. I did put a GT 12ax7 Mullard in to replace the bad Silvertone tube. Very musical tube I have to say. Well worth the extra few dollars to get one. What 6v6 should I put in?

I am SO jealous. They have a pair of Silvertones kind of like that in a little vintage gear shop in the basement of a local music store and they cost and arm and a leg, sound good though. A Crate practice amp is a steal for $22, much less a cool vintage tube amp.

This thing is so freaking cool sounding, especially with Spina's SD-1 in front of it(wicked vintage gain). I'm thinking about building a small 2x10 combo with the chassie and preserve the original for home use only. I sure won't have very much into this by the time I'm done. Any suggestions for great low wattage 10"?

*fighting the green monster*

The Baton Rouge GC did not have ANYTHING like that today...and I DID look, with this thread in mind.
