Gear Brand Pronounciation!

A couple of names I've always wondered about...

first is Takamine... I use to say it "tok a mine," but i just recently realized it was "tok a meany"

another one is D'Addario? how the hell do you say that? is it "da darr io"? just like it's spelled? that appostrophe throws me off... it seems like it would be "da addario"... someone at a local music store called it "da dare io".. so what is it???

only ones i can think of right now... what else?

Re: Gear Brand Pronounciation!

actually, the real japanese pronounciation would be- Ta-ka-meee-nay...

But who wants to say that. Tokameenee for me:D

No clue about Daddario. I say Da-da-ree-oh, but I know that's absolutely wrong.

...As for Charvel... is it pronounced Charvl (like I say it,) or Char-velle?

Re: Gear Brand Pronounciation!

I say tak-a-meen and da-darr-io, but I'm a Brit. Actually, I think my brother (who owns one) says tak-a-meen-ay, so I'm probably wrong. :D

Someone did a thread on pronounciation of Ibanez recently. I say eye-ban-ez!

Hey TO, this reminds me of the time I was out guitar shopping with Keef and Ron. We walk into this place in Denmark Street and who should be there but old Brucie Springsteen! :smack: :laugh2:

Re: Gear Brand Pronounciation!

How do you pronounce the name D'Addario?
We receive letters each week regarding the correct pronunciation of the D'Addario name. Some years back, we even ran an ad which illustrated an easy way to pronounce the D'Addario name. The name is pronounced phonetically as follows: Da-Dairy-O A simple way to pronounce the most difficult name in musical accessories.

it's similar to my own last name which is D'Avanzo.

how about ENGL? i have heard a few versions of this also but i say it like "angle" but with an E. i have heard people call them "angel" also...anyone know?

Thats interesting, because I always assumed that when a "D" was set off with the apostrophe, it was pronouned like a stand alone letter, thus . . .

Dee - A dairy - oh

Edit: I just had to think about that for a second to realize its wrong.
D'Elegance is not pronounced Dee - elegance. :smack:

D'Addario: Da-dar-ee-o (but apparently it's Da-dairy-o)
Takamine: Tak-a-mine
Charvel: Char-velle
Ibanez: eye-ba-nez
ENGL: Angle (but with E.... so Engle)

e-ban-eth accent on the E

Re: Gear Brand Pronounciation!

Another difficult one is Godin, which sounds like it would be Go Din, but I've been told it's Go Dan
