Gear snobs can be so foolish

Re: Gear snobs can be so foolish

aka... a fake Les Paul.

Because Slash plays one. Without Slash no one would have heard of the guy.

If Boss had discontinued the GE-7 or the DD-3 people would be paying too much for those too.

While it's true that Slash's first three 'Appetite'-era Les Pauls are copies, it's total B.S. that Slash made those guitar makers famous.

Max Baranet and Chris Derrig started making their burst clones in the late 70s and many of the guitars used original 50s Gibson parts. It's entirely possible that Gibson stole the idea for the historic series from these clone builders because of how many big name players were playing them. As far as the A2Ps, the first set Slash owned were installed in the Max-built 'Hunterburst' that Slash used for most of 1985 and early '86. When Slash bought the guitar, the original PAFs were removed because Slash couldn't afford them.

OP writes a post about someone being a gear snob.

I point out that Slash recorded Appetite for Destruction with a fake Les Paul and a rented amp, then toured the world with a couple of B stock guitars, some Boss pedals and a Dunlop Crybaby... then tell the OP to tell the gear snob to eat a d*ck.

At some point it should become obvious that I'm being flippant.

Lol. Some of these responses are gold.

I just find it ludicrous to think someone would exclude a piece of equipment on the HUGE generalization that it's crap because a certain place carries them.

Want something different than the rest, ok... But what if that JB/Jazz combo of pickups so many others use sounds amazing in your rig? And, if you have tried them and don't like them or just find you sound like everyone else using them, surely they have a pair of pickups that are not so common they can sell you that you'll like. ...and if you know exactly what you need and nothing fits those specs, fine.

I tend to go for the more obscure offerings at my local store. It's not uncommon that I actually have them order a piece because the in stock selection can be found in a large number of local rigs... But if a piece works for you, you'll never know until you try it.

I admit, I've steered clear of GFS, but not because of where it's made or who sells it though. Reviews and the experience of the guy I take my guitars to when I can't do the work myself seems to indicate they are not consistent. You can get a really good set one time, then the next one is horrible even if it's the same models.

SD apparently has horrible customer service, but the quality of their product is consistent, so to me it's not an issue. I'll probably rarely need to deal with them.

Anyone who's worked in a music store has met loads of these people. They simply make me laugh. Whatever, your $4,000 guitar is amazing, sure is. But your bends are still out of tune.

You think you're saying 'great record is recorded with cheap gear'

What you actually saying is 'great record recorded with boutique modded amp and highly expensive custom built guitar'

At some point it should have been obvious from our replies that less thought was applied to your post than should have been
