I find the GL 12ax7 kind of brighter over the tungsol, not that sure if I dig it.

I can see how you could think that. I found it to be very clear though, not bright. Certainly not piercing like the TungSols I've tried, or grainy like the EH's.

Stop it you guys, just when I started to get satisfied with the pres I have in there now, you're making me wanna try a GL and a Mullard RI.

They will be.

Next time for pre's I would recommend something other than Groove Tubes. All they are are re-labeled and pretested preamp tubes from other companies.

From what I learned from Soulcrusher_X (thanks man) the ones you got were Mullard RI's which price wise isn't to bad considering you just paid an extra $10 to make sure they work.

From the picture, it looks like Mullards, but from the description it sounds like Chinese tubes. If he gets all Ms on his tubes then it will be a smooth tone indeed. I have an old Mullard/Amperex 12AX7 and it is powerful, creamy goodness.

If you are still having brightness issues with your D60, the Mullard RI, either the GT (which is closer to the old Mullard, it seems in terms of physical contruction at least) or the New Sensor version will be right up your alley. It's warm, and has rolled off treble like the JJs, but MUCH fuller mids and low end. I finally gave mine another try and it has a neat midrange grind/harmonics. Think of it like an LPS that has an EQ shifted a little more towards the low end.

It might be the perfect V1 tube for you.

Aren't the TAD's supposed to be like the Mullards? If so, try them out. They're really huge sounding. Very full and rich. I used them for the last few years, and still do in V2 (second gain) & V3 (clean).

The TADs are supposed to be like the old-style Mullards? I haven't checked out the TAD stuff in a while. I'll have to check them out.

I think youre right, man. I have an Amperex/Mullard that I got from an old Hammond organ that looks spot on to that one.

After trying EH, Sovtek, TungSol, PM, and JJ, the TAD's ended up being my fave pre's (and power too) until I tried the Gold Lion. Now I have a GL in V1, with TAD's in V2 and V3. I'm really liking the mix and won't change anything now.

I put the GL back in the V1, seems fine at low volumes at least have to try it this weekend

Only the 7025-S TAD is supposed to be like a Mullard. I saw somewhere that it's basically the GT-M, with some minor tweaks for TAD. I don't remember where I saw that though. Anyone have both?

The other TAD's are your typical GT/Ruby type offerings, tested and relabled chinese/JJ/new sensor stuff. Good tubes, just nothing different.

dougs penta M are pretty good, old groove tube mullard reissue's I have 2 in my amp

Wow those look nice! Thats were I bought the Gold Lions. I don't have to mess with the Bias to experiment with the Pre amps so I'll try a GL pre amp eventually for sure. It fits so I'm going to even experiment with this in the recitifier:
