Gene's not my favorite player but he's decent and Carol Kaye is probably one of the most underrated bass guitarists ever. The number of tracks she's played on is insane.

That's actually respectable ...of Gene. Any serious artist will always be open to learning new things. How can you have a life-long career and not learn anything new? It's inspiring when someone who has major professional accomplishments will allow themselves to better themselves through learning something new - to them at least. Like when Neil Peart took a year off to study jazz and reinvent his playing, after he already had a quarter-century career.
