GENTLEMEN! Behold!

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

So Newell dropped the ball a bit. I asked for a 115 combo cab for a dual showman reverb and they sent me one for a dual showman, which has smaller chassis. He sent me a shipping label, gonna mail it back on mondee and he said he'd have the correct one out ASAP. Still a bummer though, I have some shows comin up and I was ready to rock that ****.

I went ahead and put the 15 I had in the extension cab i got though, just set the head on top & used it at practice today. Sounded pretty f-in good actually, it's a 4 ohm head goin into an 8 ohm cab but it still sounded pretty big & deep, lots of projection for an open back cab

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

I had JD make a combo cab for my Bandmaster Reverb. Truly top notch cabinet.

Drew, out of curiosity, what do you dig about the 15 inch speakers? Are you playing mostly clean or dirty?

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

I've got a reconed JBL D130F that is still waiting for a vibroverb build. It's a really awesome speaker. Those Californias are supposed to be clones of the JBL's. Which dome did you get? I think you're going to love them once you get 'em broken in a few hours.

Old secret for those JBL D130F… (From the files of a steel guitar player!)

Carefully coat the aluminum with a light coating of clear fingernail polish. This removes some of the brittle edge that that aluminum give to this particular speaker.

Well the dual showman is just a twin reverb in a head, so it's super clean by nature. I run it at about "8" so if i play hard I get a decent amount of gain but picking lightly is clean; i like a good noticeable range from clean to dirty for band stuff. I've also used the 15 for jazz gigs and it sounds superb

I dunno how to really describe what I dig about them. The cali's are JBL clones but with paper domes so they're a little mellower and handle gain better, but JBL's are basically just big and uncolored. Being a 15 they're a little mellower on top, people say slower response/saggier but without a/bing them with a 410 or something i couldn't tell the difference, if it's there it's not big. The lows are more complex though, they don't stay as tight as 10's or 12's but it's a little bit deeper and more round, more round on the highs too. I dunno, p90 les paul - early SF fender - big vintage style speakers is just a good recipe for good sounds.

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

He makes nice looking cabs. Eventually, I want to put a Super Champ XD into one of his 1-12 cabs with a G12H30.

Those Super Champ XDs are surprisingly great amps :) Cool cabs!

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

JD is a cool guy. I drive over to his house to pick up the cabs I have bought from him. He's a cool old dude.

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

Thanks guys

got to crank it at practice last night--it does indeed sound like thunder. Shouldn't have any more problems being heard over the bass, that's for sure!

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

That there's a rig that would make Ted Nugent proud.

I started playing in 1973. To me, silverface is just "right".

Re: GENTLEMEN! Behold!

Let me know when you guys are playing and I'll try to make it out, I wanna see this monstrosity in action. Maybe I'll get some scrilla for you too.
