Try this link for Bandmaster info. You'll have to find out which BM he used. Blackface and Silverface BM's are just heads and are relatively cheap. There are also other Fender heads that are in the same ballpark...the Bassman head might be a good bet for that kind of music; those are generally a bit more money than the Bandmaster.

My guess would be that that type of guitar through an old Fender would be a good combo for that kind of music. Maybe you can find some pictures of his live show from the 70's (before his period of mainstream popularity) and look to see what's on his backline.

thanks. now about this guitar (i believe a gibson es 175 with p 90's) what wood is it made of?

Not an ES-175 but an ES-125! It's a thin-line Gibson. He uses the singlecut version with two P-90's. I have seen two pictures of him on stage in front of a blackface Fender head sitting on an speaker cabinet. The picture quality isn't good enough to verify if it's a bandmaster or some other model though.

I found the article I spoke about earlier (Guitar Player, Mar. 2000, pg. 26). Thorogood states he runs two Fender Dual Showmans (apparently my memory is lousy) in the studio and two Mesa/Boogies live (contrary to the pictures I've seen). He sets the pairs so one is fairly clean, the other really dirty, then has the soundman put "just a touch" of the dirty amp in the mix. He says using the amps paired this way helps tame the feedback problems inherent with the hollowbody ES-125s he uses.
