German Power

I know there are some German residents on here but anybody could answer my question.

I'm am going to buy a German amp from Germany, but i am a little worried about the power and voltage issues.
I'm know Germany uses 230v and UK can use appliances rated between 220-240v.
Is it pretty much safe just to use a standard UK IEC lead. (Normal 3pin - 3pin)

What company are you buying from? Hughes and Kettner is German made but they are made for american power, especially if they ar being shipped over sea's. I can't imagine why they would send you a amp that isn't set for american power

As far as I know when you purchase an amp in europe it's set for european power and works all over EU, but I'm not 100% sure.

Matt, does your country ship stuff with those funky diagrams and even more funky electrical plugs, like I used to see on household goods?

PS: Does anyone know that the boutique marshall 18 watts amps can not be sold in England because they do not meet UK electrical standards?

The company im buying from is "Musikhaud Thomann Cyberstore" but the amp make is ENGL, i'm only worried because i once bought an American made Rocktron unit from the UK and it was set for american power outlets with the 2 pin plug.

Because i'm getting a bit annoyed hauling my Laney half stack around i am going to get the ENGL Thunder 50 combo w/out reverb. I've heard alot of good things about it (including impressive soundclips) and plus i have a 4x12 if i really want to use that as well.

It really is a nice amp, by the way. I live in the Netherlands, you get to see more and more ENGLs around here. Two friends of mine both have an ENGL halfstack (a Powerball and a Savage). Both are incredible! You have to like the high gain sounds though, they tend to have a lot of presence, which some people may interpret as 'fizzyness'. I think this is their strength, however. Makes them cut through any mix very well.

It was a thought, but i need an amp that is more potable that i can take to band rehersals and smaller gigs, but when i need the larger sound spread for bigger gigs the 4x12 is there.

Matt, nice score!!! That is the exact reason why I bought an Engl Screamer 50 combo. I'm finding that some places I play are getting tight on space, but, I still got my 2x12 and 4x12's if required. You'll have no probs with the power issues and Thomann are a great company to deal with. I got a full Thon flightcase for my Screamer for £136 from them, delivered to the UK for a tenner and the great thing is, VAT is included so you don't have to mess about with customs places. They are also the cheapest on the 'net for Engl gear and I plan to get a 1X12 extension cab from them in the new year.
Let us know'bout your Engl when you get it - I'm sure you won't be dissapointed!!:beerchug:
