Gettin to a place where Jacksons arent my Bag

Re: Gettin to a place where Jacksons arent my Bag

for the ultimate in exotic styling and playing comfort, you cannot beat a Jackson Warrior

I'll back this. Most comfy shape to me.

Also, I have no such described issues with Explorers or similar. My Destroyer looks like the neck is kinda out there when playing, but I think it's just my mind playing tricks on me, because it doesn't feel much different. V's on the other hand...

I love strats, I used to play Explorers and Les Pauls, I've played V's, but in the end the strats just play and feel good to me. In the 80's I thought they were junk-and most were-you needed to do a fret job cuz Fender CBS would slap the lacquer all over the neck like butter on bread. But as soon as they sold- the Strats got better. Ibenez and Kramer made a fortune selling cheap well playing strats. Charvel and Jackson made a fortune selling expensive strats. Washburn, Hamer, and others jumped in too but slowly Fender started making the right guitars again and they have been squeezing out there competition. Not everyone wants 3 single coils and plays country. I think they had to change their company culture too. I swear for a wile they had a attitude of cheap @ss high profit equal success like Peavey but it really has changed. Tom Anderson used to be the go to high dollar strat company but Fender Custom Shop is now giving them a run for the money. I am surprised Suhr is doing as well as they are-I think they make great guitars-but their a niche company.
The new market seems to be Parts Casters now as machining is so precise you can custom build something now and it will play nice too. Titanium truss rods, baked bodies and necks, quarter sawn rock maple one piece necks, custom switching options and electronics- hell were all on this Seymour Duncan web sight and they are a custom pickup maker-the whole market has changed. Strats feel great-customize a strat and your good.

White Charvel Pro Mod + new pickguard + two single coils would get you there for pretty cheap.

Haven't played a Pro Mod but I have played an Adrian Smith–loved the neck! And the Fender headstock is my favorite out there (that kind, not the CBS era one.)

Re: Gettin to a place where Jacksons arent my Bag

The import Adrian Smith is about the cost of an import Pro Mod, actually, and both are made in the same plant.

However, a used USA Pro Mod or Japan Pro Mod will not cost as much as a USA Adrian Smith sig, so there's that. I will say I loved the necks on my Pro Mods (still have one - a USA body with Japan neck).

If you can find one sanely priced (which is getting harder) the Killer KG-Pirates or Stallion/Starrion (lower-range Akira Takasaki sig) has a neck that is a laser-scan of the Charvel San Dimas profile. Not the So Cal, but an actual 1980s San Dimas. I had an '84 USA Charvel Star and the Killer at the same time, and the necks were scary-close. ESPee really went all out when they copied those necks.

However, it's still a low-midrange import, so the $1000+ people are trying to get for them is just stupid. $650 tops in excellent condition is as high as I'd go for one, personally, but that's only because I had one before and know what to expect.

The most comfortable of all my guitars is the Ibanez RG. Super comfortable guitar and fast player. Just a few months ago I played a Les Paul and blew it away lol. I wasn't expecting something like this from an LP. It made my playing fly, like no effort at all. The biggest difference I felt in guitars so far. My Warmoth strat is good too but I chose a bit bigger neck than what I wanted...

LOL I did that too. I got a screamin deal on an old Richy Sambora Fender Strat. It had a big fat neck on it. It played great when I was siting down. The big round neck fit my had so nice and I slammed scales and chords on that sucker. So I got it home and sat around the house and played the thing for a couple months. The build quality was excellent and it sounded good. One day I got a strap for it because I was going to jam with some buds. When I played it standing I suddenly noticed that big fat neck didn't play well. I had a terrible time playing chords and scales up the neck. The guys I was jammin with loved the tone and kept telling me....Lose the Les Paul and play that strat. I ended up selling it and getting more strats but with the modern C shape neck profile. Talk about an expensive mistake:smack:

Re: Gettin to a place where Jacksons arent my Bag

Never was a Jackson or Charvel Fan as I didn't like the wide necks. Had never bonded with one until I found the '88 Ontario Soloist Custom. But, I agree about the Pro Mods as they do have really nice necks. I've played a few of them and they just feel super comfortable, broken in and familiar immediately. I've been tempted by every Maple Board I've touched.

I loved the neck on my USa Jackson, but the volume knob was always in the way. I know it is there for ez volume swells, but I bang out power chords a lot more than I make cheesy violin noises. Nothing worse than rockin out and accidentally turning the volume off...
