Getting a Gibson Sg-3

Hi Everybody,
This is my first time posting. I'm getting a Gibson Sg-3 the three pickup Sg model. I'm going to put a Alternative 8 in the bridge position and a Jazz in the neck position. Any recommendations for the middle position?

Thanks,
Jon

Re: Getting a Gibson Sg-3

Welcome aboard. SG's are great guitars, good choice.

Some of us here think a single coil works best in the middle of an HHH guitar, as HB's sound very different in that slot for whatever reason (nothing like they sound in the bridge or neck; which has something to do with how they line up with the string nodes, and possibly magnetic field issues). There are a number of companies today that make P-90's that hit a HB slot. I did that with my SG Custom, put in a C5/P-90/'59N.

Do you have experience with the JazzN? It's sometimes considered a rather bland & timid PU. Some of us prefer a '59N or PGN (PAF's) in the neck as they have more color & character to them, and balance better with a hot bridge PU.

Are you doing the soldering yourself?

Thanks Blueman335. I really like the Jazz I have them in the majority of my guitars. I use the neck pickup for my clean sounds and the bridge for the distortion.

Maybe I should give the SPH90-1N a shot.

Re: Getting a Gibson Sg-3

I love 3 humbucker guitars. I have a 59b in the middle position on my LP. I find that I prefer bridge pickups in the middle position. What are the pickup configurations on the SG-3? What kind of sounds are you looking for?

As much as i love the SG, i do NOT like the 3Xpu models.
