Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

Yeah, Im sure my fickle behind will find something to change... And Im sure most of you don't care, but Im just posting this to make myself feel better.. haha

Ive had a million things that needed done to my fleet, but Im finally getting close..

My White Charvel: I have an EVH low friction pot for it. In no hurry to break it down tho cuz the neck has to be pulled and all.

My tele: I wasn't completely satisfied with the bridge pup I put in it, so I got a Duncan Jerry Donahue. Just need to wire it in.

My Black MG 130: just need to rewire the pickups to a diff lug of the pot to split the neck and middle cool rails.

My Blue MG 130: have a Ti block for the Floyd, need to install and change neck/middle pups. No idea what singles to get. **Suggestions wanted for 2 pups to replace Cool Rails. Want a more traditional SC sound that'll go with a JB in the bridge. Quarter pounders??

Red Charvel; need to get a red Black Winter set for it. Or??

One other guitar with a Mahog neck/body: have to figure out what to pups to put in it and get them. **Suggestions for a hot set of buckers? Suhr Aldrich set??

Pedal boards;

Have to finalize what chorus and delay pedals Im gonna use
Have to get a power supply for the other.

Dang it!!! Since writing it out, have more to do than I thought....$@#$!@#!$!!!!

Those are the must dos. Obviously, there are a couple of would like to dos... Want a Red Bogner pedal. And may change the pups in my Black Epi LP. Bought it with the intention of upgrading pickups, but it came with Gibson 57s in it and I kind like em... Thinking bout putting my Suhr Aldrich in the bridge. Just need a neck pup..

Well, still much to be done, but three of the guitar projects, I already have the parts and all..

What you guys got cookin??

Not a short list from where I'm standing man. Sorry, not super-experienced with single coils but I read that the STK-S6 Custom Stack Plus gives a tone similar to the SSL-5 which Washburn themselves put in the SSH MGs of the era.

Haven't been up to much myself, I still have the ESP I got at the tech and still haven't heard back from him (not surprising seeing as it's summer and a lot of people close up for summer vacation).

Other than that, I am looking for a chance (i.e. cash) to have some work done on my Strat:
The frets are gone and need replacement, the pickguard looks a mess from pick scratches (plus I HATE the stock Strat 5-way location, I keep bumping it when it's not on bridge) and also the control layout doesn't work for me.
I have the Crazy 8 plus 2 StraBro-90s in there and she was wired with a push-pull that when down she's a normal Strat and when up it activates the P-90 sound of the StraBros and coil splits the Crazy 8 plus there's a switch between the master volume and master tone that turns on the bridge and neck together.
Still debating what to do but right now I'm thinking one push/pull for coil-tapping the StraBros, one more for coil-splitting the Crazy 8 (or I might skip it entirely as I've found I don't split the bridge pu all that much in the guitars that I do have it) and the Bridge+Neck switch stays as is.

Would actually love a few suggestions myself here :)
Also, if there's a place that cuts Fender-compatible pickguards but where they put the 5-way in a more sensible position (I only use two pots + a switch so there is space in my layout) I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise, I do believe I am dialed in, the Stinnett hasn't been touched ever since I put the Tom Anderson HN3 in the bridge, I LOVE the Fuglybuckers in my Swing, the Aldrich makes a great bridge pu in my Patriot and I still like the stock neck, the MG-122 has been stock ever since I got her and will probably stay that way until sth fails while Ascension had the right idea when he put the Alternate 8 in the MG-104 I got from him. I also put an Aldrich neck in there and love it.
As for my Parker, another success story for the Jazz in the neck and due to the thickness (or rather, lack thereof) I put an Anderson HN3+ in the bridge and now she screams like an LP (but more comfortable).

Sure I've been debating installing a big block in the MG-104's Schaller Floyd but I don't feel like I NEED it, she's prolly the best-sounding of my guitars already and I don't feel like sth is missing to know what I'd want to change.

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

You should probably just give a few of the guitars to me, you know, just to relieve yourself of projects... ;)

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

Well today I'm bleaching undergarments,,,,,,,,out of necessity btw.

Nah seriously I feel your pain, as I've also about a half-dozen small guitar projects to complete.
Man, once a guy has kids and women and stuff,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I mean it's great but everything else turns into midnight projects. lol

Keeper, Yeah, seemed like I was closer to the finish line before I listed it all out... Then when I saw the list...: (

Dave74, yeah thats always the case. Late nights at the dining room table trying to get something done..

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

Lemme know when you get caught up,you can start on my Projects Pile!!!
:D

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

You'd probably have half that list but for posting;-)

I've got a Korina tele with bigsby and filtertrons that needs initial setup done.
Plus a nice semi to full hollow tele I've just finished building in the same boat....that one has a vintage p90 in it which wil be interesting to hear.

Cool.

once you get an idea of how much you have and want to use yourself let me know, as if there is enough leftover for a couple of carved tops for me I'd be happy to grab some extra.

Hey BFAM!
As far as the trem block, If you are happy with it, don't worry about it.. LOTS AND LOTS of gigs were played and records recorded on stock Floyds before big blocks were invented.. So, no need to upgrade... Im just too picky that way.. In my mind, if something sounds good stock, it will prolly be better modded!! wasted money and time most likely.... Another thing too... Those Schaller floyds on those were the good stuff too...

As far as the ESP, how long has that been at the shop?? I would prolly call for a status..

On the patriot.. My Patriot is I believe, the only guitar I own and have owned over the last 20 years that didn't come with a Seymour Duncan (Or other Big name brand)that I left a stock pickup in.. The neck is stock and sounds great. The bridge was pretty good too, but again, figured it could be better.. haha I just took the cover off of the neck pup so it would match the bridge, but otherwise....

So, you like the Aldrich neck?? Ive been curious about those.. Have an Aldrich bridge that I love and will prolly put it in my epi LP.. just never tried the neck.. Many LOVE em, some say they are too much and go with the Suhr (ST?)

Ascension has great tastes and his run very similar to mine and well......We know that you most likely would agree... haha
I loved the ALT8 I had. wanted to pull it when I sold the guit, but the buyer wanted the pup with it... : (

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

At some point I might go for a Big Block, depending on the situation.

The ESP has been gone about a month or so but I remember they always closed up in August and this year they're even moving to a new store so I didn't wanna bother them, plus not much disposable cash so I'm not really in a hurry.

Yeah, the Rockfields in my Patriot both sounded great, the reason I swapped the bridge wasn't because it was bad in any way but because it was too middle-of-the-road and wanted sth more Rock/Metal-oriented, otherwise sounded just fine.

I really like the Aldrich bridge pu but I LOVE the neck, prolly my all-time-favorite neck pu. It's PAFish but with a sweet top end and a very organic sound, think the best possible mix between a Jazz and a 59. But what I like the best about it is how sweet it sounds when split. Just love it!

Yeah, we three are like peas in a pod :D.
The Alt8 is prolly my new favorite bridge pu. I always knew I liked how an AlNiCo 8 affects a pu's sound but I do believe SD really hit the nail on the head with that one. Still love my Crazy 8 and really liked the Custom 8 but I do believe the Alt-8 just ticks all the right boxes.

The Aldrich has a really great rock tone and the Anderson HN3/HN3+ are GREAT metal pickups that never turn to mush even with copious amounts of gain but the Alt-8 hits that sweet spot between those two areas.

Do tell whenever you have managed to get anything else done man!

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

thanks for the info!! Aldrich neck sounds perfect then!! Cuz Jazz and 59s are usually what I use. Ive just heard a lot of folks say the Aldrich neck is too much..

LOL! Yeah, Im ALL about the A8s... LOVE Custom 8s, loved my Crazy 8 and my Alt 8. It was actually the Crazy8 that I meant got sold in that guitar that the buyer wanted.. I forgot the name, but remember it was a forum pup.. My Alt 8 was sold too tho as I didn't have time to remove it. But can always get another of those down the road if needed. Need more guitars again!! haha

I will. First project to tackle is getting the wiring fixed up on my MG130. Put in a push pull so I can split the cool rails and wired it up wrong. Then the tele. I already have the pup, but the guitar is in Jax.. Then the power supply for the board so I can the boards done.

Saving money while this is going on so I can get the black winters, pedals and then will focus on the blue MG130

Re: Getting almost done with projects/few remain. Advice??

One down.. Got the Duncan JD in the tele last night.. KIck A$$!! Next night or so, Im going to rewire the black MG130 so that I can tap the cool rails.... The other projects are going to require $$ and take alil longer. Next up is a power supply for my board.. I just got a couple of new chorus pedals, so Im going to get those mounted to my main board.. power supply is for my "color" board. Then will get the delay dialed in. Then the red charvel and then the blue mg or other guitar. Depends on which I decide on pickups for first and can pay for. Gear budget is VERY minimal these days..

Random will be the evh pot on the white charvel. have the guitar, have the pot. Either next time it needs a restring or.. Will wire it in..

Still need single coil ideas for the Washburn mg130 to replace the cool rails..??
