Getting close... 1959RR content...

I'm getting down to the last few "scheduled" days of waiting for my Rhoads head...

I'm starting to get antsy...

Just keeping you guys in the loop...

Re: Getting close... 1959RR content...

Cool. I'd love to have one of those. I wonder what's been taking them so long?

I'd heard that Rhoad's original w/cascading circuit had reliability problems, so I wonder if they're extensively bulletproofing these amps, so they don't get warranty problems?
I'm just guessing here, but it sure has taken them a long time to release them.

I knew yer probably excited, but I just don't think this amp is worth all the buzz.

Everyone knows that Randy's tone was in his MXR distortion +. Nevertheless, I bet it's a cool, albeit overpriced, amp.

Used to run a Distortion + into a JCM800. Solid little booster pedal, but hardly the overall foundation for a tone like Randy's.

Is it worth the price? Maybe not, but to me it's a fitting tribute to the player who shaped much of my playing style and musch of the player that I am today.
I am very much looking forward to it. If the sample video from NAMM is any indication, it's going to be an amazing amp.

Re: Getting close... 1959RR content...

Besides sounding good, those amps will be an asset that's extremely easy to sell in the future, when they're discontinued. That's if you can even bear to part with it.

Just wait till the first few hit the used market. They'll be sold in seconds.

Re: Getting close... 1959RR content...

So, my amp is on route from the warehouse to the shop that ordered it for me... Any day now!!!

Re: Getting close... 1959RR content...

I listened to te 1959RR and while it is a basis for getting Randys tone the Distortion + IS a HUGE factor (since he never turned it of) but you can;t leave out the MXR EQ with the MASSIVE push in the mids with the bass and treble pulled down. However one of the BIGGEST parts is MISSING...I heard that the matching cabs that come with the 1959RR are loaded with (of all things) G12T75's...IMHO that is an OUTRAGE!!!

The pics i've seen of the new stacks the speakers have aluminum dust caps but the recent GW review as well as the folks I've talked to say G12T75's...not at all cool!

Anyway, rant off!

All in all I think it'll be a cool head (a bit loud but cool). I am a little amazed that the price is so high and it's a PCB amp but randys was a PCB amp so at l;east it's correct (except for the speakers!).

Anyway...I am happy for you brother, enjoy it and be sure to crank it once for those of us that are scared of 100 watt amps!!!

Re: Getting close... 1959RR content...

I'm not necessarily wanting to copy his tone. I'm a huge fan and see this as a great tribute.

I'm only getting the head for now, and my plan is to find some old cabs, re-tolex them in white, new grill-cloths and find some of the proper Altec Speakers to finish the tribute.

Marshall 1960A slant cabs that are a bit torn are going for a song around here.
I found a 1960B cab. with V30's thats a bit beat that I could have for 300.00.I might get that one.

Great call!!!

Keep us posted!

BTW...I wasn't at all trying to get down on you, Randy or the amp just the facts that seem to be getting tossed around here and there!

No worries. I do plan on adding an MXR Dist+ and probably a 10 band EQ too. Partly because of Randy, but also partly because I love the sound of the Dist+ into a Marshall.

I'm with you 100%. There's no way this amp won't be awesome by itself, and with the RR sig, it pays tribute to a fav artist of yours... I approve. :)

Thanks. I appreciate it.

You bros will be graced with clips of this amp once I get it dialed in and recorded.

My sister's boyfriend has a pretty kick-ass studio, my bassist and I are going to use it to record. I'm looking forward to cranking that bad-boy...
