getting rid of a few problems spots on the neck?

I have maybe 3 areas that need fret attention, when i bend a semi tone or more
the note gets buzzed out then goes dead. i know this is a high fret causing this, what is the best way to fix this on your own without a pro tech?
the guy that used to do my repairs passed away and i have not found a tech that will match his low price.
I eventially want to learn how to dress/crown frets myself but for now is there a way to just get rid of these few bugs?

Buy Dan Erlewines's guitar repair book and purchase the needed tools from Stew Mac.

You'll need a 3" and 6" fret leveling file...I use the Stew Mac files with a hardwood handle that allow me to hold and use the files like a plane.

And you'll need a fret crowning file to make the frets round again on top.

I also use the Stew Mac fingerboard protectors that look like a 3/4" x 3" thin metal sheet with a slot to allow the fret to protude. I lay one over the fret and can sand and polish the frets across the fingerboard (cross grain) without touching the fingerboard wood.

And you'll need some 220, 400 and 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper and maybe some 000 or 0000 steel wool.

I dunno...but once you have the tools and learn how to do it you'll never have to pay a tech again. THAT sounds like a significant savings to me... :smack:
