Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

For the most part people can recognize a headstock anyway.... Honestly, you're probably putting WAY too much thought into this... No one really care what you're playing dude, just that it sounds good... and if imitators come along, let them try to get the tones you're getting out of a stock version of your guitar

If there were guessing allowed I'd bet you're playing a Squier and as far as I'm concerned, there's no shame in that... lots of us have modded up Squiers that shame some of our more expensive guitars

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

If you are good no one will care what's on the headstock.

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Something is seriously odd about this god of male genitals.

I'll be wary of any Fenders you put in the trading post...;)

God of bollocks? Seriously? That from you? Jesus. :ok:

Andrizzle, I doubt he's playing a Squier, since he asked about popping out a Gibson logo.

DonP, I think he's worried he WILL be good, and that'll make people interested in a guitar brand he doesn't want to promote (for free at least?)

Pretty much what this guy said.

Anyway, this topic sure got derailed. The first post awnsered my question, let's just leave it at that, enough 'drama' already :)

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Just put black tape on the guitar and don't F*** up the guitar by removing it.

Are you going to get this done by a pro or DIY?

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Given the circumstances black gaffers tape is best.

Or green tape... or orange... or...

Use gaffers tape and ONLY gaffers tape.

Anything else will leave a hell of a mess behind.

Gaff tape comes right off with no residue.

One of the festival hands will have some... stage manager, monitor tech or whomever.

Good luck & have fun!!!

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Or just put a sock over it so people can't tell the name or headstock... kind of a Red Hot Chili Peppers move

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

If the headstock is black, use black electrical tape. non permanent. I had to cover ace frehleys face on my Ace Epi to play in church yrs back..

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Interesting topic. And one that's bound to raise suspicions, what with scammers on E Bay doing this very thing to pass off knockoff guitars as made in USA models.

But since it's for a TV appearance and you just don't want the logo showing, black tape on a black headstock would be how I'd go. A Band Aid on a natural wood headstock should work, unless the camera is going to zoom in close.

I once saw a local band open for Steve Morse. Their lead guitarist was rocking a Hondo copy guitar. There's a case where I'd consider covering the logo myself! Actually the tone from that Hondo wasn't bad. It sounded much fatter than the Ibanez shredder guitar he played for some songs.

 That's hilarious. I used to play in a church band and one day a friend and I were joking about buying a B C Rich Warlock, putting a Screamin Demon and a Humbucker from Hell in it and playing it at church. I could probably get away with that, but if it had a naughty graphic finish...:scratchch

The sock actually sounds like the best option LOL!

Can't believe I didn't think of it before!

Go with the sock.

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

I think he meant that the name calling was unnecessary, but hey, whatever makes you feel better man.

I'd think not. No disrespect was intended in either post. I'm quite sure Diocelation would know that.

Whatever makes me feel better? Don't "stir the sh*t" as they like to call it.
I've seen alot of shady things lately in the guitar sales department. Jerks sanding off their headstocks and putting crude Fender or Gibson decals were a Squier decal once was.

Wouldn't like to think i aided in some poor kid getting a fake guitar for christmas.

However, your story might be entirely legit.

Gee sorry, Weinergod (god of male genitals), whoever you are.

Yeah, I loved playing the explorer cuz the old folks found it scary.

I too thought it would be fun to get a warlock or something.. Rich Bich or Virgin would have been really tasteless. They have a Bich at local GC that is from the 80s with closeup bikini shot..

I really hate that I sold that Frehley tho.. Was a rare black one.. played great.

Best yet, if someone asks you what the sock is for, you can tell them it improves the tone- and they'd believe it- like when Ritchie Blackmore put an extra tuner on his headstock (and I think EVH did too)

The sock's great if you have a Floyd, since you won't touch the headstock tuners during a performance. If you don't have a Floyd, tuning is still manageable between songs.

A few scarves or hankercheifs would do the job too for a Steven Tyler or Hendrix vibe

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

So he can put a fake fender decal and sell it to some sucker for 300$. DUH!

Heh heh , I just got me a Squier Pbass with the head stock decal sanded off ..

I only paid $80.00 for it since it had a warped and bowed neck , it was new and the dude just had the body repainted to a custom metallic/pearl cherry red paint job on the body , wow it's sexy . When he re assembled it he could not take out the warp & bow so ......

All I did was keep on adjusting the truss rod little by little over a period of about 2 weeks and ...... No mo warp or bow !

Such a deal for $80.00 and new and all heh heh .

Maybe I find a Fender Pbass decal and a sucker heh heh heh - - just kidding I really like the way this bass is playing and sounding , it's a keeper .

Re: Getting rid of a guitar's brand on the headstock?

Or if you want to be very thorough with a bolt on, get a new neck! Sure it'll cost you a bit and it may be troublesome early on, but most aftermarket necks (the new ones at least) don't have any logos. StewMac sells blank headstock Fender necks.
