Getting THAT guitar!

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

I've never liked flying V's much, but I think it looks pretty cool...I like the head stock on that thing.

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

that tone knobs gunna rape your hand, i mean ITS RIGHT THERE.

Yup, it's perfect for changing things on the fly (it's a volume knob by the way). I'm going to work hard to get really good at dialing in different sounds on this guitar, since it have one of the largest palettes of tones in any guitar (7-way switch, and very flexible single coils).

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

Actually he's the only guitarist Malmsteen even recognized.
That should say a lot.
Thats wierd because when i met yngwie he talked about blackmore, roth, hendrix,Vai,and many others???
Hmmmmm? where are you getting your insight about him?
a MAGAZINE PERHAPS?:D

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

Mannnn. Its funny - I have some sacred cows, that I just got rid of by looking at that thing.

I opened this thread and went - EEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!

Then I was thinking and thinking about it. And actually it all makes sense about those playability improvements. And now that i think about it - a stratted out V should sound sweet.

The only thing that i dont' really like is the purple color.

By the way I have the exact same scallops on my telecaster that I did myself, and they play really sweet.

Couldn't you just get an american strat though, hand-scallop the neck in that same way and pop whatever pickups you want.

I guess you are paying for the custom body shape, headstock shape, and craftsmanship. Maybe it'll play like a dream and become your number one.
Cheers man for going unorthodox!

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

First time I've heard about him. I always say that if I'll still have money after I'll get all the gear I want I'd get a V... Gibson Flying V, Reverend, maybe Warmoth... now I just hope I'll have a lot of money left after I'm finished buying the gear I consider to be essential. This guitar rules.

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

The Super Avianti is a Shred MACHINE, AS WELL as a great (overdriven) Blues giuitar, . The cleans are not as sweet as my Strat, IMO, however they will more than d othe trick.

There is a minimal amount of "honk" but NOTHING anywhere near annoying. THe sound chambers are responsible for that. The controls are right there for KILLER volume swells, or quick switching from neck to bridge pup in the middle of a song.

Go with the VV, they go PERFECTLY with that guitar, Byrd has been endorsed by DiMarzio for YEARS, and he went back and forth with Steve till he found the right pickup for this particular guitar. On a Strat, I'd recommend APS, or Antiquities, however the DiMarzio's bring out the best of this guitar - thick but articulate lows, screaming harmonics, and a lead tone that cuts like a RAZOR ...

It's also very light, and extremely comfortable - thee most ergonomic V that I've ever played. Its balanced very well, the guitar stays in a playing position and isn't neck heavy.

You won't believe how powerful this guitatr sounds, enjoy! :smokin:

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

I would get one if it was a whole lot cheaper...

I mean that's an awesome, unique, versatile, jack-of-all-trades guitar for sure. Anything it can't do now, it easily could with different pickups or wiring. Not to mention it looks like something a wizard would play!

But man, three grand? I'd get a faded V, a 72 Tele Deluxe, and a USA strat and still probably have money for whatever pups i want.

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

Somehow that axe just screams Surf to me (and, BTW, just as I wrote that sentence, Bruce Dickinson screamed from my speakers 'Screeeaam Forr Mee Brraaazzill!, Screamm Foor Mmeee Braazill!').

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

I remember reading up on them a while back, while I hate the way it looks (like they had the parts off several guitars, some tools and a show in 2 hours and had to make due) I believe that everything is the way it is for a reason.

On this one... form over function for me.

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

I decided to take a look at Byrd's site after the last post about these guitars and I have to say I was really impressed with the theory behind his improvements to the V. Very impressive, and normally I don't like V's but I dig that guitar....

Re: Getting THAT guitar!

Cool that this thread has resurfaced. I'm still waiting for it. This certainly isn't fast food. I don't know why the process takes so long, but James warned that he would probably use half a year. I guess one main reason is that he can't do this for a living (if you think this is expensive, check out prices on custom Fender and Gibsons :D), but in the end it doesn't matter. I am a believer.

Here's what the colour will look like in real life, except that it will be even more candy appled.
