GFS AlNiCo2 Vintage

Hey everyone am I surprised!

A little over a week ago I received a new (to me) guitar. It is a DeArmond. I originally got the guitar to see if I liked it and planned on modding it.
The pickups are not stock as you may have guessed from the title. I expected them to sound like any other GFS or import rebranded type of pickup, but these sound great. Very fat. Have that nice low growl low output kind of sound.
I just wanted to know if anyone else has had positive experience with similar things. I originally intended to put Saturday Night Specials or Seth’s in them but I may not.
Any thoughts, if I’m happy should I leave well enough alone or press for more?

Re: GFS AlNiCo2 Vintage

I know in a Trad+ I owned that when I put in the GFS most vintage voiced premium A2 pickups in that they were voiced very similar to the stock 57 Classic, but so much better as they were lacking the piercing bite in the bridge and the mud in the neck slot.

So you thought that the GFS was better than 57’s?

Undoubtedly. The 57 classic is one of the worst pickups I have come across.....not in what it aims for, but in outcome.

I think the GFS and the Seth would be in a similar ballpark too.

^^ This.

I have GFS pickups in several guitars and am very happy with all of them... two sets of their Dream 180s, a set of Dream 90s, a set of Lil Punchers, a set of Gold Foil Singles, and a Lil Killer.

Definitely NOT just “good for the price.”
