gfs pickgaurd

ok so i have a squire strat im gonna upgrade. im leaning toward an hh prewired pickgaurd because $$ is tight an i like the look but my last prewired one (dragonfire) had terribble humming unless the tone was down to 0 so idk... any experience?

Re: gfs pickgaurd

Well, although I am a fan of some of GFS stuff, obviously the pups are about the cheapest you can get. It may or may not be an improvement over your existing pups. But you'd be comparing apples to oranges (single coils to humbuckers).

Why not put together your own setup? If you want improved sound why spend money on something that may be a total disappointment to you and then have to spend more money to actually get what you wanted in the first case?

Yes, $40 may seem cheap for what you think you're getting. But you will most likely throw those pups away and buy different ones at an additional cost.

Re: gfs pickgaurd

because id rather have cheap apples now than cheap oranges now. besides im planing on gettin better apples for it later just cant afford it now, cuz im upgradin my sg with dimarzios now so while its away in greensboro ima need a guitar to play and im fed up with the sound of the single coils.

Re: gfs pickgaurd

If you only have 40 bucks to spend, dont waste it on crappy pickups. You can get a used duncan on ebay for about that much. One great pickup beats two crappy ones !

i was considering that but thus far all the ones i found were like 50/60 and i dont really want a one trick pony but to be fair right now its a no trick a$s. maybe if i get a good pickup (i.e. distortion, invader, the like) one volume wouldent be tooo limiting..... idk

Does the GFS screw hole pattern fit the Squire? Something to check before spending.

no pickgaurd will exactly fit, plus its a squire so a few drill hole wont really press me much but i do know that they rout it for hsh and wired it sss i was arguing for a minute between hh (1v 1t 3way blade) and h (1v 1t)

That's a bit silly! Nobody suggested that you get "cheap oranges" instead of the "cheap apples you are planning on buying. Would you go to the store and buy a dozen rotten apples that you would throw away as soon as you got home, just because they were cheaper than fresh apples that you could actually enjoy eating?!! That's RIDICULOUS!!

You really are "dazed and confused".

Re: gfs pickgaurd

i like my GFS pickups lol

edit: the strat pickguard is quite nice. i like my gfs 60-70's greybottoms strat pickups

Re: gfs pickgaurd

I would think this is more of a sideways jump than a forward one. Single coil pickups hum. Cheaper single coil pickups don't sound great, and still hum. For some (like me), no matter how good the pickups, single coil hum can get annoying, so I go for a silent option, like Stacks. I am the mind of getting a pickup set that solves your problems, and
1. solves the problem you are having &
2. sounds better than stock pickups.
A cheaper prewired pickguard might be a good solution, but my guess is that the pickups in there are about the same quality of what you already have.

Re: gfs pickgaurd

well the more i think about it the more im trying to wrap my mind around what all sounds i could get from 1 hum 1 vol. because if i have a good pickup to use i would rather not wire up a blade switch and i cant afford 2 good pups. but i found a bunch of used duncans on reverb so im thinkin about switching to buyin a pickgaurd to wire up. besides i already have a guitar i plan to put gfs pickups in....

better a dozen rotten apples than three rotten oranges.

Re: gfs pickgaurd

If you get a single coil sized humbucker, such as JB Jr or litlle 59er, you dont have to buy a new pickguard

Re: gfs pickgaurd

nah.... i think ima go with a single hum invader in bridge.....

have placed order for components to wire a used white invader from reverb for $50
