Gfs pickups question, for a epiphone g-400 sg!!!

Hi newbie here i have a gfs crunchy rails neck pup and i want to get a crunchy pat for the bridge for my epi sg g-400. But i also thought about doing a crunchy pat bridge with a mean90 neck? If any of you have try'd or heard one of these setups or witch one would work best please tell me about your experience, i play punk rock Thanks .

The Mean 90 is really a great sounding pup. I love P-90 pups and this one is really good. Nice warm and full sounding yet still nice and crunchy with some bite, like you'd expect from a P-90. I recommend the Mean 90 for neck or bridge. Actually, I'd recommend it for neck AND bridge, lol.

Not sure how experienced you are with swapping magnets, but I've heard swapping mags on the GFS rail pickups can yield good things. An AlNiCo 3 or 4 in the neck would mellow it out and it would still rock.

I just swapped the A5 for a UOA5 in my GFS V59 bridge pup, and it really made a big difference, the A5 was thickly coated in wax and when I tuned the notes would fade off quickly, now when I tune the notes hang longer and the lights on the tuner stay on forever. Even if you don`t swap mags on a GFS I highly recommend removing the mag and scrapping some of the wax off and then put it back in,, clears it up quite a bit.

Is that because some of the excess wax squishes out onto the strings?

Ok the mean 90 sounds like its a really good pup, i have never really played one well not enough to get a good feeling about them. I have never done the magnet selling ether. Can i put a lp wiring kit in my sg?? I cant really find a sg wire kit.

Welcome to the forum! Now, Ill be honest and say Im not familiar with the pup you are asking about. But, I wanted to chime in a say that the Custom 5 sounds absolutely stellar in a G400 and would do about anything.

For a hummer, the C8 is the best thing to come along for an SG.

Otherwise, a P-90 and SG are made for each other.

I use a ampeg ss-70 if this helps I like a real fat round wearm tune like old greenday pennywise bad religion stuff...

In that case I'd say you need a tube amp.
