GFS pickups

Re: GFS pickups

I tried their Classic II Alnico humbucker in the neck of a LP a few years back. Nothing to write home about. It wasn't very articulate either.

Oh. That's really not nice to hear...

Could have been the guitar itself, or the settings on the amp. I installed one into the neck of an Agile LP (with a VEH in the bridge) and it sounded decent to me, and I hate neck pickups.

You'll get a quick glimpse of the pickups at 1:10 here:

Like many said, buyer beware. Some people get good results out of them, some don't. I've seen many people get the wrong pickups and DOA pickups and whatnot.

Personally, I think they are fine if you are trying to make an inexpensive guitar sound better on a budget, but I really don't think they are any better than any stock manufacturer pickups like Fender MIM or Epiphone pickups. I also think that a used Duncan or Dimarzio for $30-$45 is a much better bargain than paying $25 for a GFS.

Not saying they are better, but, for people who lives outside the U.S. it's more difficult to get those used bargains. Also, it's hard to find the pickup you want, from a person who send to other countries and these days. Also, most people are asking about 50 bucks for a used duncan humbucker, plus international shipping, which, in the end, is much more expensive than GFS. Especially if you need the pickup right now and have no time to wait for a good offer.

Re: GFS pickups

I have a bridge crunchy rails in a cheap alder Strat, and its not bad. Its tight with some good brightness, and a pretty even EQ. Its not mid scooped like you might think. The power rails have more bass and mids, with rolled off treble. I wasn't a fan of it. I've never tried the others. I do know people that love the crunchy pats.

Re: GFS pickups

I've had great luck with GFS and Dragon Fire Pickups.
I love the GFS "Lil" Killers ( 15k ohms ) and some clearance specials that were amazing.
I've been very satisfied with the orders I made from both of those companies.
