ghs boomers...

Finally broke a string on my new schecter and realized I haven't bought replacement strings yet. I liked the feel and sound of the strings on there quite a bit better than the eb's so I thought I'd just get a few sets of the exact same type. BUT, I seemed to remember someone here saying they're harsh on frets. Was it ghs that this was true for or am I thinking of something else? Maybe I'd be better off getting some ddarios if that's the case.

Re: ghs boomers...

no no, I wasn't asking WHAT they came with. I know they're ghs. I was asking if they're harsh on frets and if I should maybe get something different despite liking them. I don't want to need a fret level sooner than I have to.

Re: ghs boomers...

oh, sorry. I used them for a long time, and I did not notice any extraneous fret wear. Stear clear of any cryogenic strings (GHS Sub Zero, DM Blue Steel) and you should be alright.

FWIW, I really like S.I.T. & Dean Markley Sig Series.

Re: ghs boomers...

Cool, thanks for the info. I've been faithful to ernie ball regular slinkies for a long time but the ghs sound a lot snappier to my ears. I'll look into the s.i.t. and dean markely's as well and see if I like them as well.

Re: ghs boomers...

Choose your strings by tone, not by fret wear....we´re talking a difference in a few week over a time span of a few YEARS ;)

And this belongs in the guitar shop....

What's wrong with cryogenically treated strings?

Re: ghs boomers...

Well, I put em on last night and I'm actually kind of disspointed. They feel WAAAY lighter than the strings that were on before but they're supposed to be the same thing. They just feel kind of dead in comparison. Easier to fret and stuff but I dunno, I'm not diggin it too much. Action just feels too low- and they definitely don't have the same bright acoustic property to them that the others did. They feel "OK" though so I'm not gonna take em off just yet- I just have to find the same exact type that were on there originally next time. Maybe I'll just try some d'addarios next time instead...

Re: ghs boomers...

What guage and brand did you get, just to be clear?

My Schecter came stock with GHS 10-46, so make sure you're putting 10's on there for the same feel.

As far as brands, I currently use D'Addario's, but haven't really tried anything else in about a year. Going to go pick up some DR's, GHS, Dean Markeley's, and SIT's, and see if I like them any better.

Re: ghs boomers...

Yeah, I put 10-46 on there. They just feel a lot lighter. like a LOT. They remind me of eb super slinkies, but I've always been a regular slinky guy :P

Re: ghs boomers...

The only thing I noticed about GHS Boomers is that I snapped more strings with that brand......B and high E.

I just use D'Addario 10's, 11's, and acoustic 12's, and forget about strings. They almost never break, and stay punchy for quite awhile.

Re: ghs boomers...

if you want snap, use the GHS Zakk 10-60s*

*use only if you want to permanantly disfigure your nut

Re: ghs boomers...

noooononono- I made that mistake with my sg, the schecter gets nothing bigger than a moderate gauge thank you.
