GHS Coated Boomers

I've always been an Ernie Ball fan never liked Gibson Daddario or Fender strings.... But I tried some coated GHS Boomers in my tele today. Now I haven't played it plugged in yet so maybe it will be too bright but Im impressed. The strings (same guage) are slinkyer and easier to bend and slide then the EBs they also seem louder and bright but in a nice smooth way (not so harsh as EBs which I usually don't like till a few days) also seems to be less fret buzz vs ease of play (action feels lower but less buzz then before).

Update when plugged in but for about 6AUD (60% off at Allans Music these are nice).

I don't know man. Speaking man to man, as friends... because your avatar is a picture of Johnny Marr, so we're friends from the get-go, GHS has never really been my string of choice, it's funny I stumbled onto this thread because I was thinking about trying some boomers after watching a video where a luthier put them on a guitar he made and they sounded pretty good.

The only good coated string I've ever owned/played have been elirix nanowebs... let me know how they fare and how they sound, and if they come in 8s, holy crap, we might have something here.

Re: GHS Coated Boomers

They have different gauges then other strings (like 10 1/2 to 48) but definately come in 8s. I am still skeptical because non of the guitarists I love the tone of use them (as far as I know) and I feel their brightness may be a bad thing once I play through my amp but so far pleasantly surprised mainly on ease of playing. Definately needed new strings though.

Re: GHS Coated Boomers

Ok so verdict after playing a bit is that they arent awful but I prefer EBs. They seem to have a high sheen a kinda acoustic steely sound but less high mid attack then the EB (something I love about teles) and with some distortion this seems to sounds a little blurry in the high end and slightly muddy compared to EBs although maybe not as harsh. That said strings are obviously a very subtle thing and playability wise I like these strings alot so I will not take them off just put EB Hybrids back on when i change again.
Some people may prefer this change in tone and different amps and playing style may benefit and maybe im just too used to the sound of EBs (over 15 years).

P.S. Astro its great to see another JM fan!
