Re: Gibson 496R and 500T

i will be installing a duncan custom ceramic in my les paul on saturday.
bought it thinking id get a better overall tone for hard rock and metal than the gibson 500 t.
was this the right call?

Yo man, I got them balls to answer, though it's because I've downed a pint or eight by now.
I think the Duncan Custom is THE pickup to match the 496R. In fact, I like the 496R but I've never been crazy about the 500T - to me it was too hot and mushy. But when I paired a 496R with a Duncan Custom, it was the perfect match to me.

(Truth be told, I swapped pickups in that particular guitar too many times to mention, but honestly the 496R/DC combo is one of few things in this shaky world that worked for me)

Read the thread man !!. I wrote already that i changed my gibson explorers 500T and 496R with Duncans to take a better metal tone.

my bridge is now Duncan custom (SH-5) and neck is Pearly Gates..

Duncan custom gives the real palm muting sounds with my explorer. thicker than 500T.

But 500T would be a better lead pup. I use my explorer mainly for Rhytm. No matter!! If i was playing more leads than i would swap 500T with Duncan JB :jester:

for your les paul, one calibrated hot-rod set. which has SH-4b and SH-2n pups would be great. Better than 500T-496R
