Gibson 500T equivalents?

Re: Gibson 500T equivalents?

That would pretty much, I think, maybe make like a Custom???

I've seen it here, by Duncan employees, that although Customs and 498T's have a similar resistance, they have very different winds, and not really a substitute for each other.

Noted, but the 498 is often referred to as "Gibson's version of the C5"

So it makes logical sense that 498 + Ceramic = Custom. Or maybe Custom -esque, or custom like, sort of, maybe.

Then again, wind magic is a dark art. Might = crap in a 498, but power metal magic in a Duncan....

Re: Gibson 500T equivalents?

Isn't the 498T wound using 43AWG wire and the 500T using 44? I was under the impression the 498T is in the 13K range, and the 500T is in the 15K range.

Again - two pups can have very similar technical specs and be very different....

Yeah, that's kinda what I meant. Even though both have got the kinda signature rasp to the high-end, I don't think the 498T and 500T are interchangeable.

I think they're about as different to each other as the Distortion and the Custom 5 are.

Then again, JMO.
