Gibson 500T?

Just like you would expect a Duncan Distortion to be.

Angry aggressive metal pickup

tight bottom
punchy mids
screaming highs
I don't have a Duncan Distortion at hand. I've tried it, though. I didn't mean to say the Black Winter is polite-sounding, but the 500T just has a cool old-school grittiness to it. I'm loving it!

Glad you like the 500T!

Figured you might. Just have to play one to really know what it's about. In the right guitar, it's a slayer and its voicing works for a lot of styles.

I agree with you on the Crunch Lab, though it's actually one of my favorite 7-string pickups (that and the Invader 7 of all things, lol).

Had one some time ago. Didn't like it, personally. It was too lower-mid-focused for my liking. I'm more of a bright pickup kinda guy. :)
I put one in the bridge spot of my Ibanez V-Blade. D-Activator n in the neck. The guitar has plenty of high end and sustain. What it needed was that low mid punch. The D-Activator in the neck is clear and bright and doesn't drop noticeably in output from the bridge. Together clean they sound like a dreadnought acoustic.
That pair is staying put.

Yeah, I don't doubt it would KILL in the right guitar.

I'm moving my X2N to my Epi 1959 which is a lot brighter than my Gibson. That was a nice pairing when I had it in there.

X2N is interesting. It works well in a bright guitar. But it probably pairs even better in one that is a bit more sonically neutral. Unless you are going for "doom" I wouldn't put it in a darker guitar.

Can anyone explain the difference between a 500t and a dirty fingers?

I had a late 70s Dirty Fingers in a Edwards Les Paul a few years ago. It was even a tad hotter than the 500T with more treble bite. I didnt like it however, it could have been the guitar it was in. I bet it would sound killer in an old LP with 300k pots.
