Gibson acoustic epoxy around a/e control cavity??

I noticed with my second-hand Gibson acoustic/electric that there is beautiful Indian rosewood when looking at the sides through the soundhole, but a black coating surrounding where the fishman preamp is installed. Is this common and does it serve a purpose?

I would say to remove physical rattle issues.

^Most likely, that is the case, but some companies goop up their electronics so you can't see how it does what it does.

True.....I took 'around' as being literal in this case.

It could be shielding paint.
