Gibson acoustics?

Re: Gibson acoustics?

Nothing beats a nice SJ-200 if you ask me, "the King of Flat tops" has this rich and huge room filling power that just blows me away (as does the price sadly)

A j-45 is just always going to be timeless as well. Just like a Strat or LP. sure theres tons of brands that make strat style guitars but theres still something about a real strat, know what I mean ?

The J-45 is just such an intergral part of the history of 20th century American music. So many legends wrote and played timeless classics on that guitar. You can't help but feel it when you pick one up.

Re: Gibson acoustics?

Who cares about Gibson Acoustics, GET A MARTIN!!!:D

Why do you have such a problem accepting that people may have different taste and opinions than you ?

If YOU want a Martin, buy one.

This as a whole seems like a really nice forum with lots of helpful and open minded people who are really want to help each other out so your post really stick out like a sore thumb.

We get that your a 17 year old kid who likes ska and fenders and that you hate Gibson's and will bash them and their players at every chance you get because you have the typical immaturity of someone your age who hasn't yet had the life experiences to feel comfortable with their own choices without having put other things down to build yourself up.

How many Gibson players here do you see posting on a strat or tele thread about how thin those guitars sound or otherwise degrading them ? None that I've seen.

Try to at least act your age and conduct yourself in the mature adult manner the rest of this forum has no problem doing. No one likes a wiseguy

Re: Gibson acoustics?

Gibson did some pretty horrific things to their early acoustics. They had tuneomatics on a few models and adjustable bridge height with 2 screws on either side. Those were on the early Doves and Hummingbirds. These problems were easily fixed with replacing the bridge, or at least routing out the saddle and replacing it with a proper one. In more recent years they made a few models with Mahogany braces (which does not allow the top to vibrate properly). But as others have said when you do find a good one they can be magical. I have played 2 Gibson flatops that really stood out. One was an early 30's all Mahogany guitar that was just great, the other was a 1936 advance jumbo. To this day it was the best large guitar I have ever played.

Re: Gibson acoustics?

I loved a lot of the Gibson SJ acoustics I've played, I think they're fanastic.

I do love Martin a lot more than Taylor guitars. And I think Takamine makes some really great acoustics as well.

Re: Gibson acoustics?

Nothing wrong with Gibson acoustics, I sometimes catch myself drooling over them at a store or when I see someone playing one on stage. Personally tho, its the price thats a turnoff. Most Gibson acoustics cost $1500+. The nice ones are $2000+. For that money, I'm sure there's something else better out there for less...

But yeah, they're still sweet guitars. I just saw the Foo Fighters acoustic DVD... Dave plays Gibson acoustics and had me droolin'... very nice tone. not EMO at all...

Personally, I've played some inexpensive Taylors that I thought were way better than a Gibson and at half the price...

Re: Gibson acoustics?

i do admit, they are beautiful beasts.

funny thing is, martin is the other brand i don't get, their guitars have never struck me with envy or gas in any way. i could give them the same description i gave the gibsons earlier.

actually, talking of gibsons, the only ones i think i really tried and played for a while to get something out of them were the hummingbirds. and those failed me.
