Gibson Amp, yeah or nea?

Does anyone have experience with any of the vintage amps or newer ones for that matter? Clips?

most of the old and new gibson amps that i tried sounded really good, the newer ones were all trace elliot designs branded as gibson after they purchased trace

of all the gibson amps i tried i think an old ga30 with reverb was my favorite

I have a GA-18T Explorer ('59-'60), which is similar to a tweed Vibrolux 1 x 10", and a GA-5 Skylark (also '59-'60), which is similar to a tweed Champ. They are great sounding amps, although I'm not sure whether they are built quite as well as their Fender counterparts; OTOH, the prices were about a fifth of the going rate for similar Fenders.

As for the new(er) ones go over to the gibson site...all the clips in the download section of the various guitars are the Goldtone (trace) amps...they have been discontinued though for the new handwired amps...

I've played 2 of them (the Goldtones) and IMO they friggin rock...I'm not an El84 fan either

one of my favorite amps i've ever played was an old gibson Skylark... it was tweed covered, basically the equivalent of a champ, i believe with only one knob... fantastic sound, but i haven't found another like it since, otherwise i woulda bought it.

The new goldtones sound very nice, but for the coin you could get a comparable PTP amp.

I think the matchless EL84 and the Celtic EL84 sound better than the Gibson ones I've played.

I like the Gibson Goldtone series. They sounded very good (which was a surprise). I'm sure Scott's beaut blows it away though

The Trace Elliot equivilants of the Gibson Goldtones can be had relatively cheap. I've owned two Velocettes, one with the 10 inch speaker and no reverb and one with the 12 inch speaker and reverb. I picked up each for well under what the Gibsons go for.

Really? I mean I know I'm a Gibson ho and all ..but I've always thought Gibson (tube) amps have been very good...old...new...I haven't played through a pile of them, nor is the tone usually what I'm looking for, but I've always thought for whatever they are(were) they were nice sounding amps.

I don't have goldtone amps available in my local stores. They don't even carry any Gibson amps, so there is a guy selling away his Skylark, I wonder how is its reliability and things like that ? anyone ?

I have two 50's Gibson GA-20's. The secret to getting a great rock tone from those old 50's Gibsons is to plug into the MICROPHONE input. Much, much ballsier tone than the guitar or accordian input. Lew

The couple that are on Ebay that are realistically priced are around $300.

Theres' one that someone has at $700. Yeah, that'll sell... :duh:

edit: All of the ones on Ebay are the post 1962 model with the "brushed" tolex.
