Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

I like that a little better than the BFG. They can keep that killswitch thing. Gibson's still not getting it right IMO. Wire it like a regular Les Paul, but with a humbucker bridge PU and P90 neck PU. Then I'll start to get interested. What they have there is a $1,159.00 guitar that needs to be completely rewired.

I agree. A simple HB/P-90 set up with a 3-way toggle & 4 volume/tone knobs...that's a great idea for a lot of models, not just this one. They don't ALWAYS have to be twin HB's. Of course, you could put a Phat Cat in the neck of a LP Std (thank you Seymour).

Excellent point about having to re-wire an $1,100 guitar; and how many guys buy Gibsons & replace the PU's? Gibson needs to pay closer attention here.

BFG = piece O :censored:

Sorry, I just think they look like garbage.

Like their rebranded factory seconds.

I'll gladly keep my Explorer Pro.
Much nicer instrument, IMHO.

Nice explorer, the pros are smaller then the original right? Is it more comfortable?

As for the BGF it is pretty cool but for the price there are better guitars..

Yes, it's a slight bit smaller than a regular Explorer.
The comfortableness is what drew me to it.
Along with the nice mahogany grain. :D

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

There sure are a lot of strong feelings about how a guitar looks and sounds smeared across the 'net.

Personally, I don't care about the chambering, not have Gibson hid this aspect of the guitar.

If for no other reason, I'm enjoying mine because it's a great sounding/playing guitar. I don't think it looks bad either. I don't try to be different. I just don't need a bunch of guys telling me what I should or shouldn't like. If it feels good to you, then don't be to quick to go for it.

Agreed, aloha. Personally they are not my cup of tea, but more power to ya if you love yours!:approve: Variety is indeed the spice of life.

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

That was the pic I had. Cool.

Personally, get the top switch to do it's thing, make it master volume, master tone, blend pot and turn the smaller switch into a spliter for the bucker. Get a trussrod cover and it's set.

The specs state the chambers.

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

The BFG Paul hanging at my local shop has a really really rough edge right where my right forearm lies on the body... It's so abrasive that it hurt a bit & the skin on my arm was red... all scratched up!

The rest of the fit & finish including the fret ends are of a similar "cheese grater" quality.

Re ~ Chambered Pauls... I played three studio's with the nice flamey tops and all of them were too light in weight & tone for me to consider calling them "Les Pauls".

Maybe 7 - 7 1/2 pounds each?! Strat/Tele weight for sure!

Didn't sound right at all.

No wonder people prefer Epi's these days...

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

Well after going back to the store and playing a few Gibsons i have to say it almost seems like a "toyish" guitar. To light and im thinking after time the finishing of the guitar would get on my nerves.

It was also hanging next to a Lp Custom, man what a beast of a guitar! Now im GASING for one of those..... but...... its 3 times the price of the BFG!:banghead:

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

Wise choice. Nothing says 'spare parts bin' like a BFG.

Really like that studio with th bfg setup though.

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

I'm not usually an LP guy but I have to admit I really like the look of the BFG. And I love the P90 in the neck. If I were in the market for an LP I'd give it some serious thought.

Although I admit if I were going to save up for any sort of LP, I'd keep saving until I could afford a Dean Soltero. Now that's an LP!

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

I've never played one. As far as looks go, I'm not too down with the wooden knobs and the see thru truss rod cover. I do however like the idea/concept behind the whole thing.

Ditto - I have only played one and it was fine. Pretty cool sounding but I'd definitely tweak it a bit.

They do market it as chambered by the way.

Re: Gibson BFG.... thoughts on this Lp

I like that glossy black one.

as for the chambring...If it feels good and sounds good, it is good. It would be nice to do an acoustic/unplugged blind sound test on:
a real solid body
a pancake
an old "weight relieved"
and a new one....
