Gibson Custom Shop?

I knew the Gibson Classics (es's, etc) had been shifted over to the Custom Shop for production, but I hadn't actually seen any of the results until yesterday. I was home for the weekend, and decided to stop by the guitar shop to pick up a few packs of strings to take back to school with me, and took a look around while I was there. And then I saw her. I've had a love for ES-335's for some time now, and regularly search for them in Beale Street Blue on ebay, hoping to find an incredibly good deal.
But this one was different. It was a flame top, and the most beautifully vibrant blue flame top I have ever seen. Likewise, I think it may very well have been the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen. Was this a one-off, or is this how they're all being made at the Custom Shop now? I'm hoping for the latter, because I would LOVE to see more of these around (especially on ebay, where I might actually be able to afford one before I'm 30)

i really know nothing about this but i would like to know more. i do like the sound of es 330' and 335's

Re: Gibson Custom Shop?

They haven't avctually changed the 335 and semi-hollow productions. They are made in the same place with the same materials, but their classification has changed. It's all BS marketing stuff. And the 335's sually do have a nice flamed top.

Re: Gibson Custom Shop?

You might have seen the 336, which is a slightly smaller, fancier version of the 335. The 336 is made in the Custom Shop, BTW.

Re: Gibson Custom Shop?

maybe Gibson just wants more stupid punks to buy their guitars and think they're cool for having an expensive guitar :laugh2: People are really trying to get rockers to buy semi hollows because many people take them for granted.

No, it was full size, and the label (though this doesn't mean much, cause a label could always be a store's error) was marked 335. I've just never seen one with a blue flame top though, I've only seen solid blue.

If it was full size, then it was defintely a 335. It probably was a CS thing or maybe a special order that didn't sell. If you have the $$, go get it. Sounds like a beuty. 335's are great sounding guitars, and pretty versatile, too.
