Izzy Stradlin loves his black 135 with P-100's. I have a 1992 sunburst ES-135 with P-100's that I bought in '92. It is a fantastic guitar (10/10) and I advise anyone out there to get one. No issues with the P-100's whatsoever. As with all my humbucker guitars, I set the pickups very close to the stings and adjust the pole pieces. They are not muddy and the harmonics come out like any PAF pickup. No feedback issues either. Because the line has been changed to the 137, the 135's have been forgotten. This is great because you can usually find one for about a grand.
The public is fickle. Let's go back to 1960 when sales of the Les Paul were so bad, that Gibson discontinued the line. Also no one liked the PAF pickups either because they were considered too powerful and were not clean enough. It was Eric Clapton in 1965 that revealed to the world the sonic glory of the Les Paul. Eventually, some musician will come along and play fantastic music with a 135. Then everyone will want one and prices will soar.
I play jazz with a hand-wired princeton tweed clone.

I love my 139. I strum too hard for a floating bridge so I'd have to go 135.

Interesting comments about not being able to access the upper frets on the ES-175...laughable, really. So many GREAT musicians have made music on a 175...from Pass, Ellis, Kessel, Hall, Remler...even Joni Mitchell...and thousands more. Didn't seem limiting to them.
Agreed...the 175 isn't a Superstrat shred stick, nor the guitar to choose for mindless noodling above the 17th fret. But in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, the 175 can make great music.
