Gibson ES-335 value

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

um

depends on the year and how good of shape it's in

but i see 335's from last year and 335's from the 80's all commanding around $2k on eBay all day

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

Thanks guys,

I just got into 335 shaped guitar lately.

I just got myself a Washburn HB35 Boogie st. custom #28 zebrawood for a good price!!

Really happy with it!, but i'm pretty sure i'm gonna buy the real 335 in the future.

But, to throw about AU$4K brand new gibby ES-335 is tough :)

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

now that i have an SG, a Strat and a Les Paul, (and having sold a few Telecaster i really didn't need) a 335 is the only guitar i'm GASING for.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

That's probably Washburn's best guitar to date. After sinking into it's original sound, upgrade all the electronics, and install something like a Pearly Gates set, and you'll see that guitar come to life.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

This all being said, if you either want to retain value or avoid losing money when you sell it later ... Buy used.

That is what i'm aiming for buddy :)

*edit: if there are none around, then i have to buy myself a brand new one :p

Well, the washburn has SD 59 and JB combo i think. SOunds really good!
The tuners are grovers

But, what i would probably gonna change are the volume and tone knobs :)
to gold vol/tone knobs like the teles.

The neck is a bit slim to my liking, but i can live with that.

Q: Is there any significant difference between ES335 satin and ES335 gloss apart from the body finish?
The price difference is a bit high

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

As with all things it's fashion and that can change. In the 80's a 60's 335 was cheap as chips which is why the indy bands had them, then blues made a comeback and the value went up. You have to pick your moment.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

I like ES Thinlines but I doubt that I would play one often enough to justify the price of a Gibson. This is why I am Seymourising an Epiphone BB King Lucille model.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

I have to say...the 2001+ models are the ones to have. They've stepped it up considerably on the late model 335's.

I've got a pretty killer collection of Gibsons, and 2 that totally blow me away are the 2007 ES-335 and 2008 Gibson SG Diablo Guitar of the Month, Feb. 08.
Also the ridiculously great 35th Ann. Custom....it's a mint '89.....an exact replica of a 57 that's 21 years old.

Those 3 guitars are the best Gibsons I've ever put my hands on. Actually, all my Gibsons are cherry picked gems. The Goldtop and honeyflame Premium Plus would blow your mind if you played them. I've got my Gibsons so dialed in...it's almost euphoria to play them.

For you pickup junkies...here's the rundown.
Black Custom - C5/59/59
Goldtop Std - UOA5 Custom 5/Jazz Bridge
Honeyburst Std. Prem Plus - Brobucker/PG
ES-335 - Stock Gibson 57 Classics
SG Diablo - Stock Burstbucker 2/1 combo.

These are some of the best humbucking pickup combos I've ever heard. I love them all, but Brobucker/PG In LP and Burstbucker 1/2 in SG are perhaps my favorites.

I also have a pretty stellar collection. 2 Les Pauls, 335, 359, SG Standard. My 335 is an '85 dot RI and it has the PAF RI pickups in her and she absolutely sings. The neck pickup is just beautiful. I bought it a bunch of years ago and I have no idea what its worth. THe old ones command pretty good $ though. I've seen early sixties go for 5K plus. A recent 59 sold for about 30K so I think it depends on what year you have. Any Gibson holds its value very well... at least the higher end models do.

While this is particularly true, you have to get lucky to get a real steal. I mean, there's a fender bronco for like 1,500 on ebay. nobody famous plays them or anything.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

I wouldn't say the value will really increase per se, but it will retain it's value.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

This all being said, if you either want to retain value or avoid losing money when you sell it later ... Buy used.

And that tells you, like almost any other guitar, that they lose value going from new to used. If you keep it for 2 or 3 decades, it might go up in value. Buy new, and you will take a hit if you have to resell it anytime soon.

Why not look at some of the other brands of 335's, like an Epi Elitist?

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

The next guitar I am saving up for will be a Gibson ES series. It's gonna take some time, but I will save up for it.

Just cuz somebody is asking that price on eBay doesn't mean the guitar is worth that...

Broncos used to sell for like $400 when i was 16

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

I can't find any store that stocks epi elitist here in Perth, Australia.

I tried the epi sheraton II, although I love the neck but the overall pickup sound, knobs and switches are pretty bad. That's why I chose the washburn HB35 boogie st custom. Its got slimmer neck but still comfy to play, got SD 59 n JB combo, switches n knobs are good and awesome case for a great price!

I still want to look at gibby 335 in the future. But, i wouldn't wanna look at some old models as the price are really high $$. I'll probably try to get a 2nd hand recent model or get new one if no one's selling locally.

Re: Gibson ES-335 value

Generally, any Gibson will increase in value 7% a year. Thats according to the book value. Other vintage guitars will increase more, and other newer less known or desirable ones will increase less I think( but that doesnt mean they don't have the long term profit potential as these less know guitars become "scarce" over the course of 20 years or even less). 7 %.... Thats better than most investements.
