Gibson Explorers...Neck Heavy???

My friend loves the shape and the playability - well, at least until he stands up. He complains of it being neck heavy and I can see it when he stands up and lets go of the neck. It drops, quickly! Of course, the catch, it was an EPIPHONE model...

So my question is to you, do the Gibsons do the same? Thanks for your time.

i didnt have a problem with the one i played, mind you i have my strap quite high so that might make a difference, and i also angle the neck quite upwards also

Yeah a Gibson will do the same...get a REAL guitar and get a Hamer Standard

Just put another strap lock on the back of the guitar up near the neck.

My Explorer is very well balanced. (gibby) Im not a confident enough player to wear it low yet and keep the neck pointed high.. (geek) But the balance is very good

how would a neck heavy explorer even be possible? I mean there is like 3 times more mass to the body its self then the neck alone.

My Explorer is very well balanced. (gibby) Im not a confident enough player to wear it low yet and keep the neck pointed high.. (geek) But the balance is very good

keep it high. that way you wont screw up your hands by putting a really harsh angle on your wrists.

the strap button on the epi is placed different than gibsons. gibsons are behind the neck on the back of the guitar, so no neck heaviness. epis are on the side, next to the neck.

Get a leather strap and put the suede side down. You shouldn't have any problem then. I've never found Explorers to be neck heavy (there's an AWFUL lot of body there), but there's a first for everything, I guess.

I know it's odd, but I think it has to do with the way the body is shaped as well.

Some of those Epi Explorers claim it's Mahogany. I go to pick it up, and it feels more like Balsa wood! It is a Goth? Those things are way light.

It seems that a number of "mahogany" epiphone explorers are alder, and it appears that my "korina" epiphone explorer is mahogany.

Maybe "Mahogany" is how they say "Alder" in Korean! Yeah- Korina's prety expensive stuff. Aren't those just a Korina top anyway? I can't imagine a solid Korina Epi!

I find Explorers to be very comfortable both sitting and standing. It doesn't look like it initially, but it really is quite ergonomic.

Back 2 the tack: I've never met a neck-heavy Gibby explorer. The Epiphones I tested were also o.k.
