gibson faded v

i was playing one of these in the store today, and i mustve got the odd one of the bunch cause it played amazing! the fretwork was nice and smooth (contrary to how they usually are on faded's), the neck was nice and straight (not to mention comfortable as hell), and there were no dings or chips or anything whatsoever. it played and sounded awesome. i ask the dude how much for it and he says its used, and $599 because its in such good shape. which kinda sucks cause thats only like $50 off new. im sure i can get it down to $550 or maybe less if i go there with cash in hand, so what do you guys think is a fair price for it?

Re: gibson faded v

I thought they were 599 new anyways?

Re: gibson faded v

That's a tough call because they're $629 new on Zzounds. That's probably with free shipping and no sales tax either. Print up this page and take it into the store to help you negotiate http://www.zzounds.com/prodsearch?form=prodsearch&q=faded+flying&cat2=3102

Like you said that one played good. Who knows what zzounds would deliver. Of course you could return it if it wasn't good, though. Being used I'd say $450 would be fair, but $500 out the door would be the top price I would want to pay.

Re: gibson faded v

I have one and mine plays really good also. I would say about $450. What you could do is go to Guitar Center and talk them down to $550 or even better on a new one. Most Guitar Centers will always come down on price.

I'm a shrewd bargainer. If some greenhorn GC salesman gives me some crap, I tell him I'm finished talking to him, and move straight to another salesman. Tell him, "look man, I got $450, which is going to include tax, you paid 25% of the retail because I KNOW that's your policy. Sell me the guitar, or I'm outta here. You wanna sell a guitar today, or you wanna walk around with your finger in your butt??? Let's go! Write it up. LOL I'm serious too. They love me.

Re: gibson faded v

LOL GJ... that'll make them feel a bit uncomfortable.

I would spend the extra money for the V if it was a diamond in a sandpit (or whatever the saying is)... for the value, it is worth it, otherwise you risk getting a likely average guitar if you order it.

They pay 25% of the retail? So on a $600 guitar, they bought it for $150? Is this the same for most music stores?

Walk in with $450 (or whatever you want to pay) in your hand, and lay it down on the counter. I've found this adds lots of weight to your offer :)
