Gibson files to cancel DiMarzio’s PAF and Double Cream pickup trademarks

The market share they gain back by preventing people from using their designs and closing their competitors far outweighs the legal costs. They are likely recouping court costs and legal fees as part of the suit along with lost revenue. Do you really think if it were a waste of money Gibson would spend decades and millions suing people? I might argue the suits are one of the most dependable cashflows feeding their bottom line.

Name one situation where a patent or trademark benefits the end user of a product.

Having Seymour Duncan as a trademark ensures you are getting an actual Seymour Duncan product. Where it's bad for the customer is when the mark is not enforced.

Same with Fishman Fluence - having a patent or patents on their coil technology ensures that customers are getting the product by the original designers in the correct form as designed, without compromises that would cause the technology to work sub-par or fail altogether.
