I went to GC last night, just to see what's new. The first thing that caught my eye was a black LP std with zebra pickups - looked just like a black std I owned years ago.
I pulled it down and immediately noticed that the whole back of the guitar including the neck was a black satin finish, and the vintage styled tuners actually had thumbscrews on the back like Sperzels. I normally like 50's necks, but this 60's neck didn't feel too small or tapered....felt nice! My ES-335 has the same neck, so I'm used to both 50's and 60's profiles.
I plugged it into a couple amps, including an Egnater Rebel and Fender Supersonic. I was amazed at how good the pickups sounded.....like I wouldn't even change them. And, it has pullup volume pots to split the pickups, which turned out to be a 57 Classic neck and Burstbucker 3 (hot and potted A2). I've always liked the 57 Classic neck, but love the BB3 a lot more than the 57 bridge. The pickup combo sounds great. As a whole, it's one of the coolest LP models to ever come out, and it's priced reasonably at $1900. I already have enough Gibsons, but I highly recommend this model to anyone contemplating a new LP.
