Gibson Firebird

Re: Gibson Firebird

"real" Birds *are* a bit akward and unbalanced...the banjo tuners don't help.

Thats why I got a Studio...feels more like an Explorer (though not the same), has normal tuners, and still has the cool firebird shape.

Mini humbuckers are way cool, but I prefer the sound of them in a Les Paul. P-90's on the other hand sound awesome no matter what gibson they are in.

Alot of Bird guys don't consider them real birds...no neck through, etc...but IMO the Studio is the more comfy, playable instrument.

Re: Gibson Firebird

The VII Also has neck binding and better inlays (as far as i know)

I really want a 1965 Reverse firebird I with a single mini, in like that clear cherry gibson always does on SG's.

Does the studio neck-dive at all??

Re: Gibson Firebird

Here's a killer for sale here...I might be tempted, but I just bought Tatoo Carrots Sheriton. If I ever find one like Jorma from the Jefferson airplane had, I'd grab it...looked like a custom, black with white binding.
Firebird

Re: Gibson Firebird

I love firebirds. there's a beautiful non-reverse model in see-thru white at a local dealer right now, and it's too gorgeous for words. I'd love a white reverse model too. I'm not a fan of the neck-heaviness, though.

As for stuff I haven't tried, well, I live in New Zealand. So the list is sizeable:

guitars by:

Suhr
Tom Anderson
Floyd Rose
PRS 513 and modern eagle

Amps by:

Carr, Bogner, Diezel, Victoria, Badcat, Splawn, Budda, Komet, Cornford, Maven Peal, Two Rock, Fuchs...

Re: Gibson Firebird

o man I hear ya,
I've always wanted one cause I thought they looked killer, and NOBODY ever has one so you'd get a lot of attention for one. I've really fallen for one recently when I started listening to johnny winter as well.
My dream bird is just like this

or maybe even one like this

you know what.. i WILL own one, one day!

Firebird

EXACTLY the one I want!!! :32: :32: :32:

Re: Gibson Firebird

with a good thick strap a bird does not feel funky at all, and I happen to like the banjo tuners! Also...mini buckers from an LP Deluxe and Bird pups are not the same

BTW, terry...that is the one for me too!

O.K. YOU GUY'S FORCED MY HAND !!...Into changing my Avatar :laugh2: With the REAL BIRDS Once you relocate the strap button
to the back of the Guitar (Where it SHOULD BE ??) this solves the balance
and nose diveing Issue's.(who know what gibson is think'in when they put
the button where they did?) This seems to be the 1st thing Firebird owner's
do with the guitar? If anybody can find a pic of someone playing a Bird w/t
the stock upper strap button? I'd love to see it. :13:
BTW, I just noticed my Birds gonna be 30 years old next year !! he he

That looks EXACTLY like the one a teenager in church acquired a couple of weeks ago. He played it in church this morning. Cool axe.

Re: Gibson Firebird

i know just what you mean Terry! i've never played one either and have always craved one...Tom plays one now and again...

Re: Gibson Firebird

I have persistent severe Firebird GAS too - and I also blame Johnny Winter. His guitar tone is one of my all time faves. If a Firebird could make me play like Johnny I'd go right out and get one today.

OK OK...I get it!....relocate the strap button! :laugh2: :D

Seriously, I never really thought about that...

Lemme see what I can find for a pic..Paul Chapman may have used the "stock" strap button, but I can't recall exactly.

Regardless... ALL Firebirds are excellent instruments. When I was younger I didn't like them for some reason. In the past year or so tho I found myself liking them more and more, until finally the GAS was overwhelming. I ALMOST bought a FB V. But the Studio was calling out to me, and I don't regret the purchase at all.

Tonally, right between an SG and Explorer. Quite cool. Classic fat & dirty (how I like my women? ;) ) Gibson sounds.

I'd LOVE to have a FB I from the custom shop with the studio headstock, routed for a full size bucker, and a TOM instead of a wraparound.
