59/59

If you want to Schenker up a bit I like the CC/Jazz combo

An A8 wouldn't sound good in a 500T, I would think. It would be too dark. An A2 would sound good, as the smoothness of an A2 would even out with the ceramic side magnets being harsh and create a nice solid tone. An A5 may be bright but I would want to hear it myself before making a decision.

I just bought that pickup from a forum bro and I am trying out an A2,A3,A4, and an A5.

actually, a2 would probably sound darker than the a8. imo, if you want bright, try an a3. it's like a2 with alot more treble(a favorite of mine in the neck spot:)). as far as a8 vs stock, i think that would be a good choice if you were to take out one or both of the side ceramic magnets in there, smoothing out the response and having full on a8 in there.

the only thing to watch out for with a8 is to make sure you don't have it too close to the strings, just like with the ceramics;)

Could you even put a regular A2 or A5 in a 500T? doesnt it already have an oversized ceramic in the middle, so the regular sized A2 or A5 wouldnt fit. Are the side ceramic mags the same size as the middel one?

Well I was trying to keep the same vibe I got from the ceramic but just wanted to round it out and the A8 got me what I wanted. To my surprise there was only the lone ceramic in there and no side magnets just the lone bar.

As far as necks go I like ceramics in the neck. Very tight, very bright. That's how I like my neck though, almost like a single coil but not and when I split it well its single coil city.

the oversized ceramic's taller than a regular mag but the same width, so it'd still fit; you might want to either prop it up with a shim of some sort OR stack 2 alnico mags in it's place

EDIT - and no, the side ones are the same height/thickness but only about half as wide. they're the same width as a plastic spacer but taller

have just read the whole thread; the hot ceramic gibson set can seem a bit much at first, especially that neck pickup...
