Gibson Hardware Nickel or chrome?

are the hardware on the new gibson stuff like jack plate, pup covers, bridges, pickguard bracket nickel plated or chrome plated?

just wondering how the hardware on my guitar will tarnish and age with time or will stay shinny.. i want it to lose its shine up a little. Im not worried about the relicing that'll hapen on its own like my white strat is about 6 years old and has its share of small scratches and scars lol but it creamed up a little, the finish is bit less glossy and all looks slightly aged just enough to lose its newness and look more like a player guitar.. its subtle but stil was kinda suprising when i opened it up because under the pickguard its stil very white and you see the diference clearly ...but the bridge stayed shinny apart from screws being bit rusty. Not much of the heavy relicer, but i do like how and instrument looks when its aged up subtly from some years of use

Re: Gibson Hardware Nickel or chrome?

It depends on the model of the Gibson. They use nickel or chrome (and gold, of course) on various models. You did answer your own question though: The bridge on your Strat is chrome and the it's screws are nickel. Worst case scenario on chrome is that it starts to blister.

how did i answer my own question.. lol i know my brdige on the strat is chrome since it hasnt aged a bit since i got it, my question was what do gibson use on their guitars, got a 60 ri les paul and would like it to age nicely, and not much interested in chrome blister.. if i find out its chrome ill have to go and replace it with nickel stuff so that in time it will mate up and tarnish nicely. Thanks for the info btw.. atleast i know i can get the stuff in nickel if they make bothof em.

It's very easy to tell the difference between nickel and chrome plated hardware. Compare the stoptail on your Gibson to the bridge on your Strat. Nickel plated hardware has sort of a "brownish" tint to it. It's difficult to explain, but more obvious when you have chrome to compare it to.

I can tell you the SG Standard come with chrome and the '61RI comes with nickel. If worst comes to worst you can always run down to the music shop and check the difference. Once you know what each looks like, it is very easy to pick out nickel...even when it is shiney and new.

I thought you wanted to know what chrome and nickel look like after prolonged use. Sorry if I misinterpreted.

The 60 RI LP would have nickel parts, not chrome.
