mine has this. PITA cuz Im gonna have to gut the whole thing to change pups... The ONLY positive is the pots in mine are supposed to be better, but if I cant use my pickup of choice. The stock pups are ok at gigging volume, but since I dont get to play that way much...

Couldn't you just add quick connects to whatever pickup you are putting in and leave the controls alone? Gibson seems to have some for sale. http://store.gibson.com/quickconnect-clips/

Me too. Very. Changing a pup was no prob (I reused the quick connect) but changing to individual volume control meant I had to gut the whole damn thing. Si I didn't. When it was as simple as switching the lugs on the volume pots. Now every time you want to install an outta phase, coil tap, series parallel, etc etc you have to rewire the whole shebang. that sucks.

I guess, I see more companies going to the quick connect system for the ease of replacement. Especially when a lot of people are using EMG's, they don't have to have any soldering expertise with them. In the future, I guarantee that more people will be going to a quick connect system. Even Duncan does it on their actives. Soon, we will have quick connects on every pickup, and changes can be made in about 30 seconds. It's the whole "I want it now" mentality. I'm not sure how I feel about it though. On one hand, there is some fun with soldering, desoldering, and burning your fingertips, but on the other, it would be a little easier.

If someone offered different boards, with quality components, for the variety of wiring schemes, it might be better.
As it is now, p'up changes aren't to bad.
You can source the molex connectors at mouser http://www.mouser.com/Connectors/Rectangular-Connectors/Pin-Socket-Connectors/_/N-7auno/
I don't mind soldering, but the connectors do make it easier to swap.
I've also used some small connectors, wired from the regular pots & run them into the p'up cavity.
One half of the 2 part connector is soldered to wires leading from the pot, the other half soldered to the p'up leads.
Loosen the strings, pull & unplug one p'up, plug the new one in, reset, tighten strings & play.
I have this setup on my SG Standard.

I dont mind the soldering either, but again, dont want to have to gut the whole thing. I may do so and go with an RS wiring setup and diff pups. But I may buy some of the quick connecters first. Thanks for the links!!! Trevorus, I thought about cutting off the connectors, but I really didnt want to tear em up either..

I should warn you, when you order the "plugs" they don't come with the pins, you have to order them also.
Then you have to attach them to you wire, then insert them into the plug, it's a bit of a PITA, especially if you don't have a set of crimpers. I used a small pair of pliers.
New technology, bugs have to be worked out. I read on another forum, Telecaster forum, maybe, where a guy was talking about buy a 100 pk of already crimped wire with 3 or 6 inches of lead on it. If I think about it later, I might try sourcing these

Just connect your quick-connect plug into the adapter, and solder the adapter wires as you would normally (standard wiring, coil-tap, phase, series/parallel, etc).
I have them on ebay right now, but if you see this post loooong after the listing ends and are interested in a pair, just send me a message thru the forum. I can even make you a custom color-coded set to match your DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, or other pickup manufacturer.
