Gibson Les Paul Content....

How do you distinguish whether a flametop on a LP in just a regular flametop or if its a Premium Plus flame top? Does the regular one just have flame and the Premium Plus has both flame and cross wood grain? Discuss.... :)

Re: Gibson Les Paul Content....

You often really CAN'T tell the difference. The premium plus is supposed to be a better grade of flamey-ness, but I've seen regular flame-top Standards as flamey or more than some PP's. Just look for a regular Standard with flame that pops your eyes out -- they're around, and you'll save about $800.

Flame baby...flame!! The more the better. The more equal premium. Here's an example.

Here are some Premium Plus's:

Re: Gibson Les Paul Content....

premium plus came out in specific years. If I remember right, you bought your guitar a music machine. After 04, or maybe 05, they didn't designate the more heavily flamed standards "premium plus" but some of the 06-07 guitars were just as "flamed" as a premium plus. I would say that the "P.P." designation was a marketing tactic of the early 2000s. I think I played your guitar when it was at music machine. It was one of you Oregon boys that bought your guitar a little after I bought mine there.

It was me. You told me about Music Machine and I did some research and they had 3 Iced Tea LP I could choose from. They sold it to me as a 50's neck but I found out it was actually a 60's neck. No big deal though it worked out for the best because the 60's is more comfortable to me. :) I ended up driving to Kennewick Washington and picked it up with my friend. We made a day trip out of it and I brought home one hell of a guitar. Thanks again dude. If you hadn't have told me about Music Machine I would have never gotten my LP. Thanks again. :D By the way Music Machine is going to start selling Gibsons again soon. Theres an advertisement on their website. :)
